FATAL EXCEPTION
I get a blue screen of death after SS has ran, then I try to shutdown the computer..
If SS doen't get a chance to run while I'm using the computer, shutdowns are no problem. Homebuilt system: Windows ME AMD 1.2GHz K7S5A MOBO ATI 8500 512MB DDR yada yada yada.... I'll fiqure this out eventually.. just wondering if anyone else has beat me to the punch. |

DirectX 8.1 and the latest ATI drivers from ATITech.com, right?
If I may make a suggestion you probably don't want to hear... That computer would absolutely SING with Windows 2000. I last rebooted 6 weeks, 3 days ago and it's still as snappy and stable as when I first booted. And I am running Photoshop, Eudora, mIRC, Trillian, Proxomitron, 20 copies of Internet Explorer, etc. Windows XP does not appeal to me.

DirectX 8.0
ATI Driver 4.13.01.9072 So far, I've found that when I go to System Properties>Performance>File system>Troubleshooting.. and check "Disable all 32 bit protected-mode disk drivers" it shutsdown fine. I'll try your suggestions.. Except switching operating systems. Besides this problem everything works fine. |

I'd stick DX9 on there and the Cat 3.1 drivers. Make a backup first of course.

Disabled "scan floppy drive on shutdown" in Norton Antivirus. Can anyone tell me how SS has that effect on the floppy? Next question.. I just bought my CD of SS off ebay.. come to find out it's version 1.0 Is version 1.1 worth buying again? |

If the version you bought off eBay was legitimate, then the upgrade to 1.1 is free, just download it at www.serenescreen.com.

Pageplayer,
The screensaver doesn't as far as I know. I have used NAV off and on for years, and if I remember correctly, when NAV installs that is one of the settings that is factory done that way on install. I think there was a mention in the instructions somewhere to turn it off for certain problems. As far as ME goes as an OS. Good Luck, I wish you all the best in the world. But, in my experience the truth is that having worked in the chatroon for several years now helping people sort out their problems, out of any OS you could pick, ME has more problems than any.
