What's your Resolution?
(and I don't mean New Years!)
You can select your resolution by running the Aquarium and pressing the SPACE bar to bring up Settings. The resolutions are available in the upper right corner of the window. The current widescreen version of the Aquarium is 99K Wide. Version 1.1 Wide will be coming out soon. Send me an e-mail at sachsnotify@feldoncentral.com with "1.1 WIDE" in the topic and I will e-mail you as soon as 1.1 Wide is available for download.

I use 1152 x 864 - it's prefect for my eyes on my monitor. The aquarium is set to match the desktop.
Before the starfish came out though, I used the widescreen at 1280 x 720 exclusively.

My desktop is 1280x960 but since I have a fast computer, I max out the aquarium at 1600x1200.

Well, If I had binoculars attached to my glasses then I would run my desktop at 1600x1200.

Widescreen Computer Monitors
I had to click on "Other (wide)." I'm running the Aquarium on a Sony 24" widescreen computer monitor (GDM-W900) which actually has a 16 x 10 picture tube. I can set it to 1920 x 1080, which is 16 x 9, but a full size picture is actually 1920 x 1200. Let me tell you...the Aquarium looks awesome on a widescreen display!

I keep my desktop at 1024x768. I like the size of menus etc... at that rez.
I used to like the SS maxed at 1280x1024 on my 17" Trinitron. But I have since dropped it to 1024x768 and turned on FSAA 2x. I think it looks much better that way. Can't see any difference in the textures between the two sizes, and the FSAA @ 2x removes the jaggies (which look like a shimmering outline, at all resolutions, although barely noticable at higher rez). Without the FSAA on, the fish seem to have a unrealistic edge to them. FSAA makes them look THAT MUCH more realistic.

The screensaver looks amazing at 1600x1200 if the video card can handle it.
My card can handle it, my monitor can't. ![]() Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up a new monitor for this system soon and run it the way I really want to. A little off topic, but it's amazing how many of my customers have upgraded or built new systems just to run this screensaver. I have a gentleman who actually bought a 15" LCD monitor and had it built-in to his bookcase just to have an aquarium that he doesn't have to maintain.

A couple of actors from the movie I may be helping on have done the same thing -- only with giant-screen Plasma displays.

rez
I run Windows at 1152x864 on my 19" monitor (which is perfect on this size screen) but I run the Aquarium at 1600x1200 (all the way up baby!). It runs at 75 fps on my GeForce2 Pro. No FSAA needed at that rez - it looks totally sharp and is silky smooth!

Can I run the aquariom at any resolution I want or does it have to be the same as my display? I mean, if my desktop is set to 1024x768 can I set the aquarium to 1600x1200 with no ill effects?

patscarr,
On the settings screen, upper right hand side, you can pick any of the resolutions available. On my home system I am set to "Desktop Resolution" I run at 1600x1200 and have a strong GF2 Ultra video card there. The office system runs at 1600x1200 also, but the card is a TNT2 Ultra, so it is set to run the aquarium at 1280x1024 for faster fps. No problems at all.

Just voted for 1152x864, I use this resolution because I get exactly the same fps as with 1024x768 (25fps). All others have different fps (800x600:38fps, 1280x1024:18fps). Just a bit strange.

I've chosen 800x600 cause thats where I get the most fps (60).
The others bring me down to 40 or 30.

I run my desktop and the screensaver at 1280x960 on my 19" monitor. Anything higher and I have to strain to read the text on the desktop. On my setup I do not see a noticible difference in the quality of the screen saver by going beyond 1280x960.

On my 19inch, I run it at 1028x768. the higher resolutions looks nice, but they just too small for my taste.

Eddie, you do know that you can run the Aquarium at a different resolution than your desktop, don't you?
(The fish stay the same size regardless of resolution – It just looks smoother...) /Calle |

I resolve at 104goodbuddy with a stucco frame rate in the valley with a picket fence and a 29-7/8 hall monitor because I had bad skin and the girls didn't like which explains why i am here......but i digress.

1280-1024
Would run on higher but my eyes aren't as good as they used to be(getting old). ![]() Besides, to read text at any higher than that, you'd need a magnifying glass methinks.
