Cool Frame Rates with Gforce 3???

I have been seeing people with Gforce 2 cards posting frame rates over 100. I have a Leadtek Gforce 3 64MB DDR with the latest Nvida drivers. I am getting about 85 fps with seven fish. Is this Ok or is there something else I can do to get higher frame rates. I am running an AMD 1.4 mhz processor with 256 mb ram. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks...JEFF

Thumbs Up

Unless your monitor can refresh at more than 85 times per second, that's the framerate you can expect.

That sounds about right. I am running a GF2 Ultra and get about 155fps at 1600x1200. I could OC it and get more, but whats the point.

Urg, my old 17" monitor won't even support 1600 x 1200. 1280 x 1024 is as high as it'll go. I'm going to spring for a 21" one of these days.

System: Athlon 1.4 @ 1.54
Soyo Dragon m/b
512 Megs Mushkin PC2100 DDR ram
Geforce 3 Ti 500
SB Audigy Gamer

just ran an fps test on the different resolutions:

180fps @ 1600x 1200
214fps @ 1280x1024
254fps @ 1152x864
286fps @ 1024x768
344fps @ 800 x 600
347fps @ 640x480

that of course is with V-sinc off and the card is not overclocked at the moment, just the CPU is.

Basically I'm running a P3 1Ghz. and an Elsa GF2 Ultra. The card would handle more than 1600x1200 but my 19" monitor won't. But I don't have any complaints.

Question Must be Monitor

It must be my monitor...refreshes up to 120mhz. Card Specs out at up to 240mhz. My current refresh rate is set to optimum which is 85mhz. In my display settings 85mhz is the fastest that it allows. I guess I could go into DirectX and override it???

Jeff,

Like stated before, look in the properties for your video card settings and turn off the one labeled "V-sync". This will allow you to see a faster frame rate. You can also go into DxDiag and do some customizations there, but you can cause some problems also. If you are getting 85fps at 1600x1200 the card can definately do more, but you probably won't tell any difference as far as just looking at it, other than when you check the fps with the "s" key you will see a higher number.
