Thumbs Up *** Back in Business! ***

Good grief what a mess!

We've been running vBulletin version 2.0.3 since October and I felt it was time to upgrade to 2.2.2.

Right thing: Making a backup of the entire forum before I tried anything!

Wrong thing: Trying to update the forum in a different sequence than the instructions at vbulletin.com state. I wanted to update the forum without losing some of the customizations I've made, but that didn't work.

Result? We've been out of commission since 9pm last night.

Part of the problem? Up until this evening, I did not have direct access to the MySQL database the forum runs on. I've straightened that out with my web host. So now, if we have a database problem, I can stay up all night fixing it, instead of waiting for my host tech support guys to do something.

Lesson learned? Follow the steps exactly and I'm going to use a program called Beyond Compare to keep up with the differences between the vanilla 2.2.2 forum and any modifications I make so they can be ripped out, I can upgrade to, say 2.2.3, then restore the modifications.

If you have any trouble with the forum, please let me know by e-mail or by posting here!! Some cosmetic characteristics of the forum haven't been restored yet. I've also dispatched an e-mail to all the forum members to let you guys know the forum is back online.

Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn

How many things can go wrong today?

Ok, way back when I created the forum, I pared down many of the settings in the Registration steps. I put some really good defaults as far as what to display and what not to display, etc.

I goofed on one thing.

"Allow administrators and moderators to send you e-mails?" was supposed to be set to On by default. It wasn't. I've just fixed the template so that all new users will have this switched On by default.

So I'm going to go through tonight and fix this for all the users. After all, we wouldn't want to have someone left out of the 1.1 announcement.

Check the Private Message notification too. Mine was off, and I have no idea why it would be.

Yes, it defaults to "E-mail notification on Private Message?" OFF and "Javascript Popup on Private Message?" ON.

All these things can be changed under My Settings.

I miss the little Percula Clowns telling me that there are new messages. Went one round through my settings and altered quite a few of 'em, but couldn't find any parameter that would indicate why the Perculas swim elsewhere right now...

I am also not getting the number of new posts and topics on the main page of the forum each time I am there.

Ah ok, the little Perculas that designate new posts I am still seeing, but the numbers in the top right corner I am not. Since this isn't a function I don't normally use, I missed it. Thanks Thrill

Thanks Feldon for upgrading.

I've had two times the same problem : when I connect, the forum doesn't recognize me (I have cookies enabled) and I must enter a password. But the password has changed...

I had to reset it and request a new one via e-mail. I don't know why

I use different message boards using vbulletin, could it be the problem for the identification ?

One of the differences between this version and the old one that we were using is encripted passwords. There could be some glitches along the way as it changes everything over. Hopefully this won't happen often. Ah, the joys of upgrading software.

Two times in the last 26 hours?

The passwords went haywire Tuesday afternoon and I restored the Tuesday morning backup last night around 9pm. So your OLD password should work again.

Thanks Feldon and Jav.

Yes it was 2 times. But everything seems to work well now.

In fact I've changed my password some days ago, so if you restored the old one, that could be the cause.

This is odd, - I still can't get the Percula's to show (went through my settings a second time). Do you think they're angry with me for some reason?
