Hi ^_^

*looks around for this "Introductions forum*

*Guesses this is the next best place to say hi*

Just downloaded MA2 yesterday. If this post lets me post new threads, I'll do that to describe my problem. if not... erm.... I'll think of something.

Is anyone running Win98se, and have MA2 running correctly?

Where's the fish?

Ha! Nope. Still can't post new threads. Okay. Supplemental info:

Win98se (no patches, updates, or anything. straight off the CD)
PC-Cillin (real-time scanning enabled. disabling made no difference)
Mozilla 1.7.8
Athlon XP 1600+, 256MB DDR SDRAM
64MB Geforce3 Ti200 (drivers updated 30-Dec-2005)

Screen resolution: 1024x768x16
(but results are the same in fullscreen as in windowed mode)

Before I updated the video card drivers, the fish and other objects were all white, and the bubbles in the middle of the screen were just a white column. wireframe mode worked, unless all-white wireframes means something was still wrong.

Did I skip anything?

Yeah, you skipped the Help Page.

Check for drivers there first, we know those work. Just because you might have later drivers doesn't mean they are any better than the ones you had before. If you need any more help after trying a few more things let us know.

Ah yes - neglected to mention that I checked the help pages after updating the drivers, and ctrl-t didn't seem to make any difference either. The screenshot was taken after pressing ctrl-t.

The link to "best compatibility drivers - Geforce2, 3, 4" (https://www.feldoncentral.com/Sachs/...1241_win9x.exe) seems to be a webpage rather than an .exe. The link to the latest drivers is the one I used when I updated.

Ooops, sorry about that, help page fixed now. What video card do you actually have? If its a very old card, then the latest drivers that you installed are probably not going to work very well. Cards that old generally have troubles with drivers this far ahead of their capabilities.

If you are going to revert back to drivers like these for an older card and you have already installed the latest drivers you should definately go into your settings and delete the latest drivers before installing the older ones. There is too big of a gap between the versions.

He said he has a GeForce 3.

I've split this problem off into its own thread.

Ok, so you had all white fish and background before. At that point, pressing Ctrl-T would have gotten the fish and background to display properly. But the new drivers are giving you a hard time. Hmm!

So we need to get you an older driver.

P.S. Running Windows 98 SE with no updates or patches is a serious issue. There have been dozens of security updates. Remember that certain parts of Windows conjure up an instance of Internet Explorer without telling you, including the Help feature. Even if you use Mozilla or Firefox, you still need to keep IE secure.

Boy does this ring some bells!
I hung on to 98SE far longer than I should have done, but at least I tried to keep it and IE as up to date as I could. - I also had problems trying to use video drivers that were too new.
Do as they say, remove the current drivers first, try reinstalling something like 6177, (or even earlier, say 4403), - but then reinstall directx again after each video driver change. ...... It worked for me!

..... But at the end of the day, 98SE is getting past its sell by date!

He's really holding that computer back by sticking to 98. That processor would sing on Windows 2000 or XP.
