Still the best Aquarium around.

I was in CompUSA yesterday and they were showing some other aquarium program on all their monitors (don't remember the name). The 3D was very nice on it. It had a moving anemone. The fish looked pretty good. And if you were to screen cap it I'm sure it would be amazing.

BUT. Big BUT here. The fish movements were HIDEOUS. Ruined the whole thing. All it did was remind me to come home and fire up the widescreen MA2 which I hadn't done in a while.

This, BTW has been the difference between Sachs and Prolific's Sachs-based-Engine spin offs. A lot of people out there can do good 3d modeling. Some of them can even get the lighting and arrangement to look pretty decent. But NO ONE has pulled the whole package together like the Marine and Goldfish aquariums. No one else seems to aproach it as art.

So on that note. Get me a 3d Saltwater background damnit. (J/K, I know it's on hold, just hoping...)

Socrates - The 3D background is not on hold. I'm working on it right now.

I was thinking of putting him on a point system. 60 minutes in the arcade should be worth 1 new fish. Right now he owes us 26 new fish. I still haven't figured out what the background should be worth though. Any suggestions?

How about, an afternoon with Candy, Mario and Ron, - once the BG is done!

This thread should be merged with the one I started Dec 15. Its name is: "Saw anemone + clown fish today" where I think I am quite alone defending the superiority (by far) of the MA2 over other competitiors. My guess is that the people who cannot tell the difference do not have experience with real reef aquariums. They tend to think that all fish swim the same way. They should know better.

I've been playing around with the beta version of Dream Aquarium and I have to say, it's very impressive, even at an early stage.

There is a discussion on it here.

Nothing like a bit of healthy competition

PS: Apologies if I shouldn't post about MA competitors here, but I've seen others do it so assumed it was ok.

I'll have to read that topic you linked to. 12 pages so far.

We've got a good discussion of Dream Aquarium here in the Other Screen Savers part of our forum including posts by its author (only 4 pages so far).

Big Grin

It is the best ever.
But just only two new fishs keep us waiting more than half year, it becomes not the best.
I don't know when can I see the 3d background.
Two years is reasonable.

Yeah! I guess the background must have motion to make the scene more believable. In that sense the Dream Aquarium is more realistic to watch. Also, the winner is the depth perspective it has by changing the size of the fish from foreground to background. When they come out with the reef tank, I'll buy it. It is clear they can make the anemone move and live rocks live.
