Big Grin Oranda Gender

hi experts

I have a red oranda which is around 2 1/2 yrs old. i am finding it difficult to know that it is male or female. The signs to identify male or female which is not at all seen. It is neither chasing a female or chasing a male. The condition of the fish is very good, long tail with healthy body, eating well. All other goldies r mating well.

I had kept it separately with a male and with a female, but nothing happens. It is a gigantic singapore oranda, i am very particular about breedig with this. Suggestions r highly appreciated.

Thanx

Welcome Balan, I'm sorry to say we're more of digital goldfish connoisseurs than organic ones... Someone might be able to help you out, but not me, you might be better off asking in another forum...

Maybe it's Bi with platonic inclinations?

If he knows the usual ways of identifying the sexes and they are not working for this one fish then there is nothing else to do.

Goldfish are very hard to sex until they become sexually matured.

And the oranda are especially hard, because of the hood on the head and they have fatter, more rounded abdomen than do even regular fantails.

The best you can do is to keep this fish with known gender goldfish and just watch them.

Good luck.

A sexualy mature male has breeding tubercles (they look like small pimples) on the front rays of the pectoral fin and the gill plates. Females are hard to tell unless they are spawning.

Yes that is right, I would say if this fish is not showing the male trait then you must assume it is female.
