The 3.0 3D background is very cool. The perspective changes while the screen pans. To elevate this to uber-cool, the perspective could change depending on the position of the viewer.

This would require a webcam. You would need some facial recognition software to estimate the location of the eyes of the viewer. The perspective could then change in real time based on both panning and the location of the viewer in front of the screen.

I doubt that this is an original idea, and there may be some existing examples of this used with other 3D applications.

Unfortunately, this would work for only one viewer. The facial recognition software would have to try and pick the closest person.

Maybe a spare-time project, or maybe for 4.0?

The Aquarium is an actual 3D background, it is not some kind of parallax.

I would love Actinic lighting, but it would require a whole other texture for each fish with just the parts that are affected/reactive to actinic lighting.

Sort of how flowers look completely different in Ultraviolet:

Actinic lighting is one I have hoped for a long time now. Like Jim says it's way down on the list, but I'm thinking after release, the fish get redone, the background gets animated, etc etc. Maybe then.

Yes, I believe they leap out of the tank and go for your throat while you sleep.

... as of Beta 8b

1) The fan coral sways nicely, except that the stops at each end of the travel seem a bit clunky, almost like big-rig windshield wipers set to slow.

2) I cannot find a setting to make the stats (upper left of screen) stay OFF, dammit! Is there still no way to make the screensaver remember from session to session that I really, really don't want the stats visible? I can hit "S" to switch them off, only if I'm present. If I'm away from my desk (IT-dept. 15-minute inactivity delay to lock screen and start saver), then everybody else doesn't get to admire the fishies and corals, as they pass my cubicle. Instead, they are confronted by the illusion-destroying evil-yellow-statistics text in the upper left corner of both my monitors. Over a weekend, it burns in enough that the ghosts of the text are visible for half a day.

3) Not related to the screensaver, but just below the entry window where I'm typing is a "Post Icons" box where I could choose an icon to label this post. However, all the hovertext for the icons seems to be misplaced. The labels for almost every icon are wrong. The labels in the "Smilies" box, to the right of the text-entry window, are properly associated with the smilies.

Please remember that this software is still in the Beta stage, so as of this point in time, no the stats will not remember "off". Once Jim relegates MA3 to "released" status, then it will.
