There must be a number. I'm just not that mathematically inclined to figure it out. Is it even possible? Jim might have something in the program to keep that from happening.

Let's see, 7 slots, times 26 fish for each slot, equals 182. Well, that's a start.

Hm, have to think a bit about that one as it doesn't matter which of the slots the fish are in. If that was the question, I believe it would total 26^7 combinations which would total slightly more than 182 (i.e. 8,031,810,176 possible combinations).

How did you get that number (8,031,810,176), Tiny?

Umm... 26^7?

And 3,315,312,000 different combinations with no duiplicates, 26*25*24*23*22*21*20.
I don't watch commercials.

26^7 is the same as multplying 26 with 26 and then the product of that with 26 and the product of that... – seven times.

2^3 = 2*2*2 = 8
3^2 = 3*3 = 9

P.S.
Ever wondered why Google is called Google? It's actually a typo (plus easier to trademark) for "googol" which is the same thing as 10^100 (that's a "one" followed by 100 "zeros")

Given 7 slots for fish, with 26 fish to choose from, where each slot will be filled with one fish and there is an equal chance that any of the 26 fish will be selected to fill a slot, the probability of having all 7 slots filled with the same fish is 1/26^6 (26 to the sixth power, or 308,915,776). You can derive this answer by dividing the number of positive outcomes (where all fish are the same, in this case 26) by the total number of possible outcomes (26^7). Divide the numerator and denominator by 26, which simplifies the answer to 1/26^6.

The probability that all 7 slots will be filled with the same fish of a specific type (e.g., 7 Lionfish) is 1/26^7.
