Help
Hi all, well for my first post I have a problem. I've had windows xp plus with the aquarium for some time and it works great. Today I bought the full version 1.0, I installed it and it will not work. All I get is a small square of coral in the middle of the screen. I here the bubbles and the rest of the screen has the back ground colors. The xp version still works fine, and I have two other computers with windows 98 and the new one works fine with them.
I have tried to uninstall xp plus to see if that would help, but it doesn't. I have updated all of my drivers and that did not help. I even tried to download the 2.0 version and it does the same thing. Any ideas would be a great help. My comp specs are Dell 8200 2 gig Pentium 4 512 Mb Nvidia 5200 ultra 128 mb |

Welcome Sean,
How things in Alabama? Not sure if this will help, but uninstall version 1 then reinstall version2. It is the latest version out. I have XP and it runs fine on my machine. And read this thread, I believe you will find your answers there. Our best ‘geeks’ have posted advice there. https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...p?s=&forumid=2

Hi, Sean - welcome to the Forum.
This problem is a new one for me. After downloading the 2.01 version, are you absolutely sure that version is the one being run, and not the old 1.0 version? (Though even the old 1.0 version should have run fine on that machine.)

Make sure that you have your keycode handy, delete any and all versions of the aquarium, and then run the registry cleaner located here https://www.feldoncentral.com/Sachs/sachsremove.reg That should remove any lingering problems you might have from a previous version. You should then be able to reinstall the latest version that you have and get it running.

I uninstalled the 1.0 version before I tried the 2.0. I have also ran the direct x checker to, and all is fine. Jav400 I'll give the reg cleaner a try and see what happens. Hell I even tried the goldfish one lol. Thanks for the help.

I gave the reg thing a try, still no go. Oh well it still looks good on my other two computers lol. I'm in no big hurry so I'll keep working at it. Thanks for the help.

Hmmm... Marine Aquarium and Goldfish have very little in common, except that they are both Direct3D applications. Do other D3D apps work?

The XP version also has very little in common with the "real" version. It is a DX8 app, with no menu screens or fish options. The regular version is a DX6 app, with lots of options and additions. But at least they are both Direct3D programs, so the possibilities are narrowed slightly.

You may need to run DxDiag, save the log and please send the log to me. Hopefully that would be enough to let me know what the cause are.

Just to update anybody following this thread.
Sean reported to me that the problem was solved by following these instructions. Warning! These steps may render your computer unusable. I hope you have backed up your computer and you have a way to restore if these fails. 1. Uninstall the current Video Drivers completely. This part is the most difficult step because XP is too smart for its own good. XP always tries to find the most compatible driver available automatically. 2. Reboot. If asked that there is new video hardware to be installed. Select cancel so you can install the newest Video Drivers manually. 3. Install the newest Video Drivers that you have. 4. Reboot 5. Reinstall the DirectX Drivers. 6. Reboot 7. Test the screensaver. This will probably solve most driver issues with any of our screensavers. |
