Late to the party

Reichart: "Hallelujah!"

Hee!

I find it very amusing that Reichert's getting the same reaction that MountainMaster received way back when while developing his FishPicker from Memilm's idea - everyone submitting requests for improvements or additions while not saying often enough, "Well done! Marvellous job! Keep it up!"

"Wow," I hear you say, "How come you remember that?"

Well, let me explain.
I first installed the SereneScreen Aquarium just over a week ago and a couple of days later discovered this site - and in the course of trying to catch up with the rest of you I've gone from the early posts on the betas to v.2 in under a week - excitement over the great strides being made, the addition of many new fish, the development of the wide-screen version; anger over the Microsoft DirectX debacle; then despair that it's been taking so long to get the 3D background done; excitement over the contents of the Wishlist; joy at the announcement of v.2 and then sadness that the wishlist was pretty much ignored. Due to this forum I'm an emotional wreck!

So what other features does v.2 have? I have the feeling there's more going on than I've managed to find in the forum in addition to the new fish - maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Do the fish now have dappled light falling on them? Do their mouths open and close? If so, then "Yay!" If not, then how soon will it take to convert them using the new tools?

And finally, the most important question - will users who bought the product a week ago have to pay an upgrade fee for v.2?

All that said, thank you again and again, Jim, Reichert and Will, et al for your efforts in making this the best aquarium it can be. Well done and marvellous job. Looking forward to seeing what the next improvements will be! How about a seahorse, Reichart, huh, huh?! Pleeeese?
Mark

Wizwad,

If you have covered that much info in a week or so, then you must be a wreck. But I think you enjoyed doing it. Basicially MA2 is the setup with the new codebase to allow many more new features to be added. So at this point you are getting new things; new fish, new setting's panel for SSA, several minor coloring fixes that have been around for awhile, and so on. But the major improvement is under the hood, geared for the future.

As far as the opening and closing of mouths and gills and so on, those things will be added when the 3D background gets done at the latest. The pricing quandry is still slightly up in the air at the moment, but a totally definative 100% answer should be forth coming soon.

Angry WOW!

Haven't checked on the forum for a while because nothing was happening- and now all hell breaks loose!!
Very excited about new version (also cannot believe anyone would complain about $5 - coffee and a danish! I would gladly pay, but thank you for the free upgrade)
If version 2.0 installs to a new directory, then it is NOT necessary to uninstall/reg clean the older version-- correct? Running as a program, we could then choose different scenarios with a mouse click.

Prolific principals had a meeting today about MA2/MAT/etc. and release plans were shored up. I think people are going to be happy with the decisions that were made for getting people upgraded to MA2.

As for when? What font color/style do I put on "soon" to mean days, not weeks? Right before the chat would be awesome, but I just don't know exactly when.

I hesitate to even ask, but what is the typical difference in release dates for non-Windows versions?

Not much longer. Farther away than holding your breath, but closer than "I'll look when I get around to it", and like Morgan says some other decisions that go along with it will make people happy.
