SereneScreen Aquarium
http://www.serenescreen.com

Before Microsoft's Bill Gates spoke this month at the Consumer Electronics Show, the stage was dominated by giant TV screens showing what appeared to be colorful exotic fish in an aquarium.

It was all fake. It was just a screen saver. But unlike the old fish tank screen savers, this one is so real-looking that people thought it was real.

The SereneScreen fish aquarium is the creation of California designer and erstwhile filmmaker Jim Sachs. He's well known for making the realistic bicycle training software for health club exercisers. But his aquarium is a work of art.

The full version of Sachs' aquarium, available from his Web site at $19.95, features 20 different fish and a starfish. There's also a free demo version.

The screen saver is so popular that it has its own fan page (https://www.feldoncentral.com/Sachs) with a detailed guide to each species and hints about new fish Sachs plans to add.

One hint: To get the most of this, you need a powerful video card with 3D.
