Unhappy Mac OS 10.3.7, program quits when chosen as s.s.

Hello. Getting frustrated here. Purchased and installed Marine Aquarium v2.0 for my wife's PC today, and now trying to get it to work on my Mac. Installed from CD, then found there was an update on the website, so I downloaded that, got rid of the old files as instructed, added the new. Now I get the same problem I've been having. The app itself works when launched from the Applications folder or desktop shortcut. However, when the screen saver is put in its correct place, and then System Prefs/Screen Savers is selected, I can see it to select from the list. As soon as I do, however, the spinning beach ball comes up for 15 seconds or so, then I get "the application has unexpectedly quit" message; this is before I can get to settings or test options. I checked the FAQ, did everything suggested. I emailed service@serenescreen.com with my ASP report. What could be going on?

This is not my line but did you buy for a personal computer or for the Mac.
I don't think the program for a pc will work on a Mac.

Or am I reading your post wrong and both your machine and your wife's are Mac

In any case some one with more knowledge than myself will be along most likely tomorrow to answer.

And BTW, welcome to the forum

Hello Kachup,

We don't have any unresolved crash problems with Marine Aquarium on the Mac, which means that a solution will be slow in coming because we have to figure out what is going on for you from scratch.

Tech support eventually escalates problems that they can't figure out to engineering (me) but first they go through all of the steps which they know to do in order to keep regular user errors from keeping me from writing new code and fixing bugs, and reducing the number of places there are for user error.

If you leave feedback at the order n dev web site with your e-mail address then we'll see if we can figure out what is going on.

Hello

Just lurking about for any newness and saw your post Pat. Running on my PowerBook G4 1000, 10.3.7. Everything serene. Why not try a simple reinstall java 1.4.2 II Grab at apple, takes seconds, well maybe minutes, and can smooth out a lot little idiosyncratics. Same for 10.3.7 combined update. Easy first step.
Zap the Pram lately? Fix permissions?

I don't run lights or audio, personal pref.

Just passing thru... Mike

Same problem

I'm having the same problem. I just downloaded and installed SS. As stated above, I can run the stand-alone app. But once you select it as your screen saver, System Preferences crashes.

Machine Model: Power Mac G5
CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1 GHz
Mac OS X V 10.3.8

I have been able to install it just fine on my iBook G4, which is running the same version of the Mac OS.

Thanks for your report. A newer version of the OS which is not yet publicly available has made this problem fully reproducible for me. I'll have a new build with a fix for this in the next week. Please leave feedback at orderndev.com for me. I'll get you an address to send the crash log.
