Right now anything you get is in Beta testing. It is not intended to run forever. Once Jim gets things the way he wants them the last Beta version will be the live version that will run without an expiration date.

"n" runs fine for me. By the way it says 7.0m in the Stats bar at the top.

I hadn't noticed that 'n' was still showing as 'm'. But you have to go back to 'j' to find one that's expired.

It's already this evening for you UK-ers. My daughter is a UK'er for the next few days - she flew there last night and is probably wandering around London right now. She's there until Jan 3, then off to South Africa.

Jim, is the sea fan the only item you are trying right now or is there other changes in Beta 8?

I'll see how much effort is involved in moving the purple Gorgonia. If it's too much, then the moving Sea Fan and some bug fixes will be the only additions. I don't expect it to be too hard, since the preliminary work of isolating an object into its own class and finding the vertices has already been done.

I had to go fishing on the Coral Names thread and then some more Googling.

http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?...d-4ac323ddc6cf

Purple Gorgonia (labeled here as Corky Sea Fingers).

Something tells me there is some classification question about this coral.

There are classification questions about nearly all coral, from my experience. That MySpace shot is a good one. That's definitely the critter - too bad it's not identified.

My understanding is that all SeaFan-like creatures are Gorgonias. Though the purple one and the orange one in the tank look very different, they are actually closely related.

I tend to always think of these names as the first label I see when doing research, but they are mis-labeled so often that I'm probably wrong about half the time.

Here's a link to a site which calls this type of purple coral a Gorgonia (near the bottom of the page, under Soft Corals):

Also known as a Black Sea Rod Gorgonia: http://florent.us/reef/blacksearod.html
