Holidays tend to be a slow time for us, we push everyone to spend time with their families, but:

MAL: A new version of MA that allows people to make their own logos is being worked on.

A few other things will come before then, like the multi-monitor stuff. We had to jump off Screen Savers because of some firefighting we were asked to help on for several other companies.

Wonder if there's a market for custom logos for people for MAL and FlagPride.

GA: New fish, and new background is being worked on. Don’t have a date. But I would guess end of Jan.

That sounds great, just wondering about MAL, does that mean we can insert out own logo into the crystal or where exactly the logo shows in the tank? is it a new product or just an upgrade for MA2.0 user? by little charge or free?

Without getting into numbers, we tend to sell between 2K and 5K copies of logo versions to companies. AGFA is about to make a huge purchase for example.

Actually, we already offer this product to companies.

MAL will be for everyone. Everyone can make their own Logo on the Crystal. It will be the Clock, 26 fish, the logos (some built in like the Cross, David's Star, the Ichthus), and you can create your own. You supply a piece of black and white art, and the program will etch it, onto the crystal.

Thanks for your encouragement! and yeah, I'm happy to hear that.

I have a question, is MAL allows the user to export the etched version and that version cannot be further modified or is it just a single version which the logo must be always in the given directory in setting? I rather it can be export to a etched stand alone version, so that when I give it to Eva, she don't need to put the original logo picture in some directory or she can modify the logo by herself. What I want to show her is the "dedication" of the customised version of MA.

We currently do this as an EXE builder.
But for consumers, we prefer to do it so people can drop things in a directory. Fact is, you can alwys make an installer.

Cool . That's Great
When the new stuff starts to come together will it go to the testers ?
I know that question is as dumb as a bag of rocks but I'm just asking .

Yes, either to the testers, or if it was already tested, simply up to the site.

What format image will the custom logo etching support? I'd like to make up a couple images ahead of time... Is it just black and white or will we get 8 bit greyscale or something? Image dimension? File format?

I know Jim's isn't the one to do it with, but if there was a high quality baseline created specifically for an aquarium mod community to start from, man, it would be so huge! Just look at what devoloper supported modding communites have done with games...

That's what Jim is terrified of.

The logos are the limit, not the start of something.

The logos are 256 x 256 pixels, with 4 bit (16 levels) alpha. You can use a color logo if you want but you are much better to use a 8-bit greyscale.

Once the crystal version is out I will probably set up a Help page and start accepting logos.

Oh, I know Jim hates the idea, and I can totally understand why. But as has been said many times, it would be great if the aquarium was opened up a little bit... I think this is a great start, even if it is also the end.

I'd hate to see anything steal the spotlight from Jim and his work, I have too much respect for both of them to wish something would... At the same time however, I do wish that some sort of moddable aquarium existed that rivaled the quality of Jim's... Something of a catch-22...

Edit: I feel what's said above is awkward... Let me try again... I would like to see something I like better than Jim's aquarium, something more appealing to me than the goldfish aquarium, something I perfer to anything I've yet seen and I think that the combined effort of a talented user community could create just that, provided they had a solid unified platform to build from... What I don't want is for Jim's creation to be dethronded in the process... But I'm not quite sure how that could be avoided if indeed I end up preferring something else over it... I don't mean to offend anyone, just speaking my mind...
