I spent that first couple of years on the Freshwater Tank.

In that case I won't suggest allowing the camera to move into the aquarium for a closer look at the gorgeous scenery

I've currently got the whole tank torn apart while I work on the fish lighting. It will have to stay that way until Friday night when I get back from San Francisco. I'm going to some aquarium stores down there looking for just the right coral to go in the last empty part of the tank.

Well, if that isn't possible, then while everyone's in the mood, how about a screenshot from the Freshwater Aquarium... pretty please!

That's been packed away for years. It doesn't look like much, even if I could find it. Somewhere on the Forum, there's a picture of the real aquarium I was using as a model.

It would be a pain to animate, but I'd love to see a cluster of pulsing xenias in the new program. I had a ton of them in my last marine tank and I'd watch them for hours on end. There's just something magical about their little "hands" grabing food from the water.

That would be a nice addition to the tank.
Maybe Jim will find one on his trip for the last piece...

So any new word on if this will be made for Xbox Live or Playstation Network? This would be awesome for either the xbox 360 or PS3 as I would like to see this on an HDTV. I think this would sell like crazy as both marketplaces do quite well in the sales department!

For what it's worth, - I get excellent results connecting my computer to our LCD tv with a long DVI to HDMI cable. I can set the 16x9 LCD tv HDMI for 1080p input and 1600x900 resolution, then choose the corresponding settings on the computer. - The results, as I said, are excellent!

If Jim could write it independently for XBox 360, that might be possible. But having to get into a license agreement with Microsoft will never happen again. You've heard the expression that starts "fooled me once, shame on me, fooled me twice..."?
"Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed. Everything else is public relations." - George Orwell
"If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal." - Emma Goldman

Thanks for posting this unexpected and very impressive screeshot, Jim. I'm one of the original purchasers (Jan '01, original forum registration long gone) and have been casually following the progress over the years. Time to start checking in more regularly, I think.

Well done, and keep on with the excellent work!

My appreciation goes out to Jim Sachs for all his hard work. I know in the end Marine Aquarium 3.0 will be outstanding, and blow the competition away. Several years ago I bought ver. 2.6 and still love it to this day, having just purchased a new 22 inch wide screen monitor. It looks awesome, and provides me with relaxation to watch the fish and listen to the bubbles in the 'tank'. I have a world of patience so take your time Jim, and you have a world of fans cheering you on.

Just got back...where to start?

Customizable fish - No.

Pulsing Xinias - That type of animation might be possible. I wish I had seen one of these in my travels with my camera.

Xbox or other game machine - Don't see how that would ever happen.

I recently bought 2 of your ss's (Marine Aq & Sharks) and the whole family loves it. Excellent work. Can't wait for the new version...

I see there is a lot of talk about the amount of fish and framerates and and... Consider this. There are currently a lot of very fast PC's and video cards on the market that can handle a lot more than the old PC's. While I appreciate that not everybody can keep up with technological trends - won't it be possible to allow as many fish as one's PC can handle? Just for example: Let's say that the ability to select the amount of fish in the scene was possible, either by selecting "tick boxes" or on a slider, one would then add fish until the PC's frame rate starts struggeling.

I have just invested in a new PC with Quad processors and I have yet to come across something it can't run. When I play games I set everything on maximum and it still flies!

But, whatever you decide is prudent will be OK by me. I have had fish tanks since I was a lad (currently cichlids) and, as I spend a major amount of time on my PC due to work, I love having one on my desktop as well. It is VERY therapeutic. Especially when I add music to the equation...

Nice work, Jim

Welcome to the forum Leon. We love having new members. I know we all wish for an aquarium SS that is equal to the real thing.
