Thought I'd open this brainstorming thread to work on the future Help section on the Fan Site.
Here's the new layout I am planning and will flesh out over the next few weeks hopefully. <b>Frequently Asked Questions</b> <ul><li><b>Updates/Latest Version Info</b> <ul><li>Marine Aquarium 1.1 (Lionfish) <li>Marine Aquarium 2 <li>Marine Aquarium Time <li>Marine Aquarium Crystal <li>Marine Aquarium (International) <li>Microsoft XP Plus</ul> <li><b>Registration / Keycodes</b> <ul><li><b>How do I backup my keycode(s)?</b></li></ul> <li><b>Customizing the Aquarium</b> <li><b>The Future</b> <ul><li>Fish & Feature Wishlist <li>Freshwater Aquarium <li>Butterfly Garden <li>Prolific</ul> <li><b>Miscellaneous</b></ul> <b>Troubleshooting</b> <ul><li><b>Aquarium Settings</b> <ul><li>White Fish (3dfx/Matrox) <li>VSync explained <li>Optimal Video Settings <li>CPU Usage explained</ul> <li><b>Windows Settings</b> <ul><li>Resolution/Depth <li>Registry Cleaner* <li>Windows XP settings Restorer <li>AutoCAD .scr Restorer</ul> <li><b>Background Tasks</b> <ul><li>View Database <li>NetMeeting <li>Direct3D Apps <li>Spyware</ul> <li><b>DirectX</b> <ul><li>DirectX philosophy (why use 6?) <li>DirectX 8.0 (why recommended + download link for 2K and 98 versions) <li>DirectX 8.1 (what to do if DX8.1 install renders your PC unusable, specifically NetMeeting conflict) <li>DirectX 9.0 (monitor sleep for 2K/XP)</ul> <li><b>Drivers</b> <ul><li>Our philosophy on 'latest' drivers <li>nVidia Drivers <ul><li>'Detonator' philosophy <li>Removing old drivers <li>TnT Riva/Vanta/GeForce 1 Line/Diamond Viper 550/770 <ul><li>Compatibility Driver <li>Performance Driver</ul> <li>GeForce Line <ul><li>Compatibility Driver <li>Performance Driver</ul> <li>3dfx Drivers <ul><li>Cairey's Drivers</ul> <li>Matrox Drivers <li>ATI Drivers <ul><li>Compatibility <li>Performance</ul> <li>Trident CyberBlade Drivers (laptop-specific) <li>ViRGE, Savage, ProSavage, Trio (S3 Graphics)</ul></ul> <li><b>Hardware</b> <ul><li>Notebooks/Laptops <li>Recommended Hardware <li>Aquarium & Video Card Bundles</ul></ul> {*Unfortunately, Prolific has followed Microsoft's recommendations about the Registry and is now putting a copy of the settings into \HKEY_USERS\ which has a randomly generated UID, which means I cannot write an effective Registry Cleaner for MA2!!!} ...Might be wrong on that one

Looks nice. Really nice. May I suggest combining Aquarium and Windows settings as I don't believe people automatically would know under which of the two they would find a specific answer out of the ones you've listed? (Ok, that was a long sentence.
![]() Sad about the Reg-cleaner. Does anybody know someone at Prolific and could ask them to change this? ![]() /Calle Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." /Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing the first thermonuclear detonation in history. |

*Unfortunately, Prolific has followed Microsoft's recommendations about the Registry and is now putting a copy of the settings into \HKEY_USERS\ which has a randomly generated UID, which means I cannot write an effective Registry Cleaner for MA2!!!
On my Windows ME system anything that goes into \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ is automatically copied to \HKEY_USERS\. Even Fish Picker does that somehow, although I only instruct it to write in \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\. So if you point your regcleaner to \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ it cleans \HKEY_USERS\ as well. Not sure how that works on Windows 2000 or XP, but I imagine it would at least work for the user running the regcleaner. |
