*** Future Wishlist Plans Please Vote ***

We are completely redoing the Wishlist pages on the Marine Aquarium Fan Site. The changes will allow and encourage people to submit photos, suggest features and vote for fish and/or creatures they would like to see in future versions of the Aquarium!

As you may know, we presently have a massive 1,000+ post Marine Aquarium Wishlist topic. I feel that it is too much to ask that a first-time forum visitor read through all of it--especially when much of it is casual discussion. We do not plan to remove this large Wishlist topic, but we do want to allow people to comment about Wishlist items in a more manageable fashion.

To that end, we are considering setting aside an area for comments for each fish/creature. There would be a Comments button, which would take you directly to a fish-specific topic in a hidden part of this forum. This would alleviate scrolling through 40-50 pages of Wishlist to see comments about your favorite 2-3 fish species.

We want visitors to the Fan Site to be able to give their opinions without too much hassle, but we also want keep the Wishlist Feedback areas clear of abuse, ill humor, and/or harrassment.

My opinion is that the Comments button should only be available to Registered forum members, to prevent derogatory comments by passersby. Otherwise I forsee a lot of maintenance for us, a poor experience for first-time visitors who see these comments, and that it would tarnish the quality we have maintained up to this point.

Do you agree that we should we limit posting to the Comments/Feedback area on the Wishlist to Registered forum members?
Otherwise, should any visitor to the Wishlist page be able to post their comments?
Should we start without the Registration requirement and then turn it on if there is repeated abuse?

Please take the time to vote and post any comments on this issue.

Once we have this Wishlist in place, we plan to duplicate the results on the Freshwater Aquarium fan site, and the forthcoming Prolific Goldfish Aquarium fan site as quickly as possible.

Thanks

That's what that voting option is for.

You wouldn't be trying to post that signature icon everywhere possible would you?

I think we're going to have to have a vote on that thing. Jim spent about a month on that artwork for the SereneScreen logo.

I know I'd rather not see that 3-4 times per page.

Ixnay,

According to the registration rules, signature's that include commercial or large files, or anything graphic in nature are not to be. In this case, this one is copyrighted and belongs to Jim, no one can use any part of it without his express permission.

The first fruits of our efforts in redoing the Wishlist are now online. No Voting or Comment system just yet...

I just checked out the new wishlist and it looks great. Good job Michael and Morgan. I have one suggestion, or question. Could it use cookies to remember our preferences? It defaults at 10 per page and 2 rows. I changed the fish list to show all in 3 rows, then looked at the specialty creatures page and made the same change, then went back to the fish page and it showed the default settings again and I had to change it again.

Actually, it forgets the per-row when switching categories by design. Fairly easy fix I suppose, but would rather use a token so that I can handle 10 categories without something like:

wishlist.php?category=Fish&size=thumbs&category1pe rrows=3&category2perrows=3&category3perrows=3
&category4perrows=3&category5perrows=3&category6pe rrows=3&category7perrows=3
&category8perrows=3&category9perrows=3&category9pe rrows=3

If I do a token, then it will be something like &remember_perrows=32203B4 (if there were 7 categories and you wanted rows to be 3, 2, 2, 0, 3, 11, and 4).

Glad you like it so far.
