The original aquarium at Scripps was replaced by Stephen Birch. It does have a very nice set of displays, although it is a bit small as Jim stated. The original Scripps aquarium was actually down the hill from Birch on the campus.

FYI:
The original Scripps Aquarium of Oceanography actually had a preserved Coelacanth. It had deteriorated somewhat over time, but real and very cool none the less.
