From a programmers point of view that may be true (though I know some programmers who might not agree). From a marketing viewpoint, IMHO, that isn't very smart at all. There are a lot of consumers out there who know enough about "beta" products to not want to bother with them. Volunteering to be a guinea pig is just not something they have the time for, or want to do.
