I can't determine if both people with the problem are using the demo version. JohnWho clearly is, but I don't know about flip.
Perhaps that's the "answer". I can't find any mention in the "documentation" of whether the demo version allows changing the music - and allows that change to persist - but I'm guessing that's it, and I'm not willing to go back to a demo version and check.
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, installed (not an update). MA3 latest Beta, registered version.
C:\Users\Public\Music\Sample Music\Maid with the Flaxen Hair.mp3
Works fine, persists, etc. etc.
[Footnote: whether it's \My Music\ or just \Music\ depends on how you get there, but they are "aliases" for essentially the same location]
