My Acer Aspire notebook... like most, have keys along the side.. as part of the multimedia feature.. for playing DVD's etc. But while under the Vista operating system.. these volume keys will shut down the SS.
You may not have the keys wired into the SS BUT.. if I touch the keys.. up or down the SS quits
