Didn't work eh? Well, I suppose you can try to use a DirectX uninstaller. Then reinstall DirectX again after that. Here's a couple of links to uninstallers:

The uninstaller at the second link might yield better results, but feel free to try either one. By the way, when you installed XP, did it properly detect which type of monitor you have?
