I'd just pass "space space" to the Aquarium and stay minimized in the system tray

I am not sure that would work. The aquarium beta that I am using currently seems to keep its own buffers and ignores registry changes, on exit it saves the buffers to the registry. I'd have to go back to latest official release to check if it does the same.
