Any more bugs?

Has anyone discovered any more actual bugs lately? I fixed the hole in the anemone on the far right, but all the other issues seem to be driver-related.

If you previously reported a bug that I haven't fixed yet, please refresh my memory.

rctneil 10-16-2008 10:53 AM

Black background on secondary screen when in window mode when using ultramon?

feldon34 10-16-2008 11:06 AM

I'm going through all the threads and flagging them with prefixes.

feldon34 10-16-2008 01:33 PM

Alright, added Prefixes and went through and tagged almost all the threads with them.

By the way, I moved a bug to a separate thread here:

It is still stealing focus when running in a window if the cursor moves over the MA3 window. Based on your earlier comment this may be as designed, but I still hope it's changed or at least made optional.

The jumping/flashing when the title bar comes and goes is still happening. Perhaps this could be turned on and off with a toggle key like wire frame mode.

Thanks.

Jim Sachs 10-16-2008 01:48 PM

OK, thanks for the troubleshooting effort.

https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...ead.php?t=4394 is a Feature???

feldon34 10-16-2008 02:26 PM

Changed it to Confirmed 3.0b2 bug.

Jim Sachs 10-16-2008 03:48 PM

Glenn - If I could just find a way of duplicating that on one of my machines, I could work on it. I'll keep trying.

Shinsa 10-16-2008 07:36 PM

When MA3 is in window, and tries to pop up front, it also causes the TASK BAR button to flash, which then causes my auto-hide TASK BAR to un-hide. The task bar then stays up until I click on the MA3 button, letting the task bar hide again. This is a minor problem, since my task bar has a lot of info on it, I like to keep it out of the way. When it pops up, and doesn't go back by itself, I need to find the offending program (many do this by the way) and click its task button to make it happy again, then the task bar will go down again.

Would be great if the aquarium didn't cause that to happen too.

Jim Sachs 10-16-2008 07:52 PM

So, if the Aquarium had an "Always on Top When in Windowed mode" option, would that solve your problem?

Certainly something that bears fixing.

In the meantime, if (whatever your OS is) can run TWEAKUI, that has the capability to turn off taskbar flashing, as I recall.

Jim Sachs 10-16-2008 10:27 PM

This isn't a bug, so it doesn't actually need fixing, but I can see how it might be annoying. When in windowed mode, the Alpha testers had asked that the titlebar at the top of the window disappear. In order for the Exit box to be usable, I had to make the titlebar re-appear and bring the window to the front whenever the cursor passes over it. The way Shinsa has his machine set up, this also causes some unpeasant effects with the task bar. In previous versions of the Aquarium I had built in an option to always have the window on top when in windowed mode, and I was wondering if this would be an acceptable compromise.

hololo 10-16-2008 11:44 PM

Why Ochre Starfish can't moving?

Jim Sachs 10-17-2008 12:02 AM

It moves.

Shinsa 10-17-2008 06:09 AM

An always on top option might fix it. Or a tick box for removing the window bar/frame. You don't need the X to exit, as right mouse click on the window will do that.

Or just click on the window to bring it to focus?

Jav400 10-17-2008 07:05 AM

I think we went over that in the early Alpha stages. Even though you don't need the "X" to exit the saver, it was determined that a right click to close wasn't intuitive enough to be the only method for exiting.

Unless Jim has changed his mind that is..............................

feldon34 10-17-2008 11:02 PM

Moved the Matrox issue to its own thread:
https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...ead.php?t=4498

Surferminn 10-18-2008 05:58 AM

I noted this in Beta 1 and thought I'd mention it since it's in Beta 2.

When Pressing the F key, going into full screen is smooth. The screen goes blank for a second or 2 and full screen mode appears. No problem. However,

When Pressing the F key going into smaller windowed mode, the windowed screen blinks in kinda fragmented for a split second before filling in completely each time. Might be something on my computer if nobody else has happen. Sorry unable to get a shot of this fragmented split second. But easily noticeable if the windowed size is about three quarters of the full size. But since it does ultimately end up into a good working windowed mode, isn't really a problem.

Jim Sachs 10-18-2008 10:41 AM

The ease with which systems switch between Fullscreen and Windowed mode varies greatly. Factors include whether the resolution or bit depth are changing, how many windows are open, and how much RAM the video card has.

Excellent initiative - perhaps this is something that can become the norm?

feldon34 10-18-2008 06:28 PM

That's the hope. :)

And if additional Prefixes are needed or some are not used, please let me know. I'm sure Jim would prefer if 5-9 were not needed. :)

Is this considered an "actual bug"? ... Or is it something we have to just live with, when using two monitors? ;)

Quote:

.... The only thing I've noticed so far is something I hadn't checked on before.....

The large drop in FPS that I reported about when a window is part on both screens, also happens when the whole window is moved across from the principle monitor onto the secondary monitor. .... Otherwise, it looks and behaves fantastically!

Jim Sachs 10-19-2008 10:41 AM

The drop in frame rate when moving a window across two monitors seems to be something that's out of my control.

flyingfish 10-20-2008 05:25 PM

Jim,

I had one other question about ver. 3, will it have a slider to adjust frame rates. It's great to reduce frame rates when left on for a long period. Keeps the processor from crashing from overheating.

Brian

feldon34 10-20-2008 05:32 PM

Right now you can adjust the sleep amount of the Aquarium with a keyboard command. I guess in the final, it would be nice to have a slider.

Jim Sachs 10-20-2008 06:15 PM

Yes, it will have a slider.

JPichat 10-22-2008 09:11 AM

I can make it crash.....

1 Attachment(s)
Jim,

I can routinely make it crash.

1. In fish setup, I clicked the all on button.
2. I clicked on the clearfin lion fish.
3. Clicked on the starfish, and was allowed to bump that up to 3.
4. Hit OK to restart.

Program Crashes....

EDIT: Sorry should of started by saying... I LOVE the new version!!!!
I can see the effort you put into it, and it will be worth every penny!

Jim Sachs 10-22-2008 09:31 AM

Thanks, I'll look into it. There's code in place to prevent more than one starfish, but somehow you're able to get around it.

Shinsa 10-22-2008 08:46 PM

I did a quick search, didn't see this posted.

There is a hole, trapezoid shape, under the jaw on the lionfish. I seem to remember this back in the early versions, around 2001~2002.

AMD Tripple Core 8450
ATI HD 3200 (built in graphics )
Vista 64bit Home Premium
4 GB RAM

Jim Sachs 10-22-2008 10:21 PM

I won't be spending any time on the fish models, since I'm about to replace them with the new models.

feldon34 10-22-2008 10:53 PM

"About to". That sounds close. Imminent even. :)

Jim Sachs 10-23-2008 12:41 AM

Everything on my list of 1000 items is imminent. Some are more imminent than others. Today I've been wasting away the hours trying to get the new web pages mocked up so that we can convince people to buy MA3 Beta. I use Dreamweaver to build my own fish-byte.com site, but it doesn't seem to work very well with Prolific's serenescreen.com site. There are missing pieces all over the place. Soooo, I got out Dreamweaver CS3, which I bought a year or so ago. It seems like it worked when I first installed it, but now it keeps trying to register itself (unsuccessfully). The Key Code comes up already filled in, but then it goes online and comes back telling me to phone someone. I don't do telephones.

rctneil 10-23-2008 12:09 PM

Heya Jim,
I would certainly be willing to do some web development work for you if you wish?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

Jim Sachs 10-23-2008 12:44 PM

I'm almost done with this addition to the site. I've got the pages mocked up, just need to build them into HTML. It's frustrating to have spent all those hundreds of dollars on Web tools, and not be able to get into them.

memilm 10-25-2008 06:16 AM

Will those MA3Beta keys, you intend to sell, allow to run the Betas and the final MA3 without any limitations? When "yes" when and from where can we buy them?
Will you put there also an validation program to automatically check if the bought MA 2.6 key still working with 3.0?

Jim Sachs 10-25-2008 10:29 AM

People that bought full v2.6 keys recently will receive a free MA3 Key when they are available. When we start selling v3.0 Keys, they will be permanent Keys with no limitations, and will work for Beta versions and versions after the Beta test period. The only difference is that Beta versions will expire, since we don't want buggy software floating around out there.

memilm 10-25-2008 12:01 PM

What about Mac-version? Will the windows MA3 key work also for the Mac-version of the MA3 or not?

Jim Sachs 10-25-2008 02:28 PM

No, the Mac version is a whole separate issue.

pwuranium 10-26-2008 01:10 AM

possible Bug

I don't know the name of the coral. The brown branching coral( it's the tallest one).I've seen several of the fish swim through the branch that is farthest in the background.
