{EDIT:}

Site's up.

48 species so far, need to add Discus and Freshwater Plants.

If you guys want me to add a fish, the quickest way is to post a picture or a link to a picture!

Zebra Fish Request

1 Attachment(s)
In my tank, my favorite fishes were the clown loaches, red tail sharks, and these guys... zebrafish.

I like them because they would always race around at the top of the tank in small groups. Very fun to watch.

IXNAY 06-26-2002 12:32 PM

Yeah I had them too, zebra's are soooo cool :D

BlueWinterWaves 06-28-2002 12:05 AM

Here's a link to the Endler's livebearers I was talking about:

http://www.aquariumhobbyist.com/endlerslivebearer/

Also, Lake Tanganyika cichlids would be cool. They're very colorful and have a lot of personality.

bluarash 07-12-2002 04:21 AM

Discus or Altum Angelfish

I would suggest the Altum Angelfish. They are a sight to behold. Sorry about a lack of a picture, but I couldn't find one that showed the visible dimensions of the fish well enough.

I don't have any pictures of my suggested animal...but it would be better to see a water spider. I think it would be cool.

feldon34 09-28-2002 10:43 PM

Mmkay.

air filling chest

I am greatly looking forward to the freshwater version of the serene screen aquarium, but at the risk of sounding like an aquarium snob, please don't put the treasure chest which fills with air and opens and closes, or at least give us the option to turn the graphic on or off. Could you put a nice piece of ornate bog wood in there instead of the treasure chest. Thanks for listening, and I look forward to seeing the product!

feldon34 09-29-2002 03:40 PM

A treasure chest is the only novelty item the freshwater tank will have, and you'll be able to turn it off.

IXNAY 09-30-2002 04:03 AM

Any other news concerning the freshwater tank???

I wanna ad this awesome fish.
It's a Labeo Bicolor or Red-tailed Black shark. It isn't a big Fish and I know this because I own one :)
Please ad this one to the Freshwater Aquarium, Please.

cjmaddy 10-04-2002 01:55 PM

Yes, I agree, I always tried to have a Red-tailed Black shark in my tanks, they are wonderful!

Please Jim, put one in !!!!

feldon34 10-04-2002 01:58 PM

I guess it's time for me to do an update to the Freshwater Wishlist on my website. It will probably double to 8 pages. :D

Nice fish. What is it?

feldon34 10-06-2002 11:04 PM

I've glued this to the other thread.

Swede 10-07-2002 10:13 AM

I would guess the fish is a Venustus - Haplochromis venustus

Piranhas

What is a good-looking fish? Which Piranhas are you referring to?
I admit that most of the Serrasalmus species can be "odd" looking to many people, but the Pygocentrus species (True Piranhas) have wonderful colouring, especially if they are wild caught.

The most common in the Red-Bellied (Pygocentrus Nattereri), of which most are tank-bred fish. This inbreeding has led to less vibrant colours than their wild counterparts, which have silver scales and bright red bellies.
Other species such as Pygocentrus Piraya have beautiful, bright yellow and orange "flames", and the Pygocentrus Caribe looks like the Nattereri, but has the black humeral spot behind the gills.

These fish have excellent personalities, as do most large fish. I have three myself, and they never cease to amaze me. They're so shy and timid, yet can turn highly aggressive when defending territory or when feeding.

I feel the Pygocentrus Piranhas would be an excellent addition to the freshwater screensaver. They are one of the best known freshwater fish (who hasn't heard about Piranhas?), and I think it would be a shame not include them.

CephaloP 11-11-2002 09:58 PM

I'd like to add this guy to the list. Jim has said a cuttlefish will eventually be in the creature pack, and if you're going to do one, you might as well do it right and use this 'un.

CephaloP 11-11-2002 10:22 PM

Wow. This is totally the wrong forum.

Morgan, can you shoot me over to the Saltwater wishlist? As opposed to just...shooting me?

Kythlyn 12-10-2002 02:39 AM

The Kuhli Loach has always been my favorite fish, ever since I was a little kid staring into my dad's 60 gallon tank of guppies and cardinals. They were fun because you wouldn't see them every day and it was special when they appeared.

jotabk 12-19-2002 07:24 PM

Jim, have you ever consider to add some interaction with the user on your wonderful virtual acuariums? I would like to be able to feed the fish, see how they catch the food as it goes down, be able to click in the tank and have the fish react at it.

What do you think everybody?

feldon34 12-19-2002 08:22 PM

jotabk,

Those are likely coming. Jim hopes to add tapping on the glass and feeding the fish. I am referring to the Saltwater Aquarium by the way. I don't know if this will refer to the Freshwater.

Jim Sachs 12-19-2002 09:06 PM

Probably the Freshwater, too.

Tiny Turtle 12-20-2002 02:41 AM

What's supposed to happen when you tap the glass? Feeding I can relate to, but what's the fun in startling (sp?) the fish?

/Tiny Menace To The Tank

Jav400 12-20-2002 06:44 AM

Actually, in a real tank thats not something that you are supposed to let happen alot. But, it generally does most of the time anyway. For some reason people seem to have some underlying need to do this. I have stood in an aquarium store on many occassions and watched it happen. It's like they expect the fish to swim up and wave when they tap on the glass. I think in this instance Jim is just looking for some slight "startled" effects to add some user interaction.

Jav400 12-20-2002 06:56 AM

Jim,

And just so you know, if one of your fish swims up and waves a fin at me on "tap on the glass" I may fall out of my chair. :) Although thats not a bad idea as an Easter Egg. I can see it now. Set it to only happen once every 4-5 thousand key presses of that particular choice. Whatever fish is closest to the glass at that moment swims up and waves a fin and winks at you. People would look like cjmaddy's avatar going crazy pressing keys over and over just to figure out if what they think they saw was really what they saw. :) :) :)

Yellow Tang 12-20-2002 08:32 AM

Nice suggestion, I like easter eggs too. Maybe there are some of them already in the current version. Maybe the "glowing royal gramma fin" has a special meaning and is not a bug...

feldon34 12-20-2002 01:31 PM

How bout the little frogs and crabs.. Maybe a snail or 2.. I always had some in my tank.. Made it really neat..

James 12-20-2002 04:20 PM

Crabs r better, freshwater crabs have many bright colors
