BETA 10 upload

Jim,

Was wondering how long it takes Prolific to update their version? I think you said it's been about a week since this updated was available.:drool:

cjmaddy 05-02-2009 02:40 AM

You don't need to wait for Prolific, the very latest has ALWAYS been available, - for weeks!!! - From... http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip

bet10

I was waiting for prolific because I want to stablized version.:TU:

As far as I understand, at the time of being passed over to Prolific for download from SereneScreen, the two versions are virtually identical.

From SereneScreen you will get the addition of an installer, the statistics default to off, and it never expires. - But it's rarely the latest! :(

With the Betas from Fish-Byte, the statistics default to on, and they expire every few weeks. - BUT YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE VERY LATEST! :)
(..... plus you can 'install' it yourself if you wish.)

I cannot think of a good reason NOT to use Jim's very latest version from... http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip :TU:

A new version shows up here on the forum. If there are any immediate problems, they are usually fixed with another 1-2 updates over the next few days. Then we sit at that version for several weeks. Finally, that version gets packaged with the installer and in another 1-2 weeks that same version appears at SereneScreen.com, just wrapped in an installer.

So just saying, if you really want to wait a month to use each version, that's fine, but if you keep checking back here, it becomes pretty clear after just a few days whether the version here at the forum is stable or not.

So far, in 9 years, not one version of SereneScreen Aquarium has resulted in data loss.

I don't know if the v10a version is up on Serenescreen or not. I'm on my iPhone so I can't download right now.

When I checked - yesterday - by downloading it and comparing file sizes - it was still the same size as before. [Not that it helps, but the "file version" was 0.0.0.0]

Please pardon the blunt language:

That's an absolutely ridiculous way for YOU to have to find out if the production code version has changed.

It's an absolutely ridiculous way for those who participate in this forum, to find out if the production code version has changed.

These are not just "bug fix" releases - they are major "function" additions.

And, if you want the excellent results of your long hours of artistry, blood, sweat, and tears to be enjoyed by the general public who already purchased the product..........

Could a "Check For Updates" not be added to the "Paid" for version, that would automatically check for latest version and download it as does DreamAquarium. Jim

prolific update

Again I think Prolific needs to get on the ball and post the update. As I'm not willing to take that chance with my computer on the unstable version. As far a buisness wise I would think it would make since to post updates as soon as it is safe too.:loco:

Wizwad 05-11-2009 05:43 AM

The 'current' beta is not unstable. It's just expired. :)

Other than that, there are no problems with it. :D

...except that it says "MA3 BetaText9 has expired" when it's really 10a that expired".

I came to look for a new update because like others I also got the message that my version (9a ;) ) 10 has expired. I like this idea that Jimkraz has here (quoted above), but I was thinking why make it overly complex - why not just add the button for everyone - but just keep the registration information intact with each new download (those that have registered won't need to put in the registration again when the new copy is downloaded, those that haven't registered will still need to put testfish in).

Either way though, not a bad idea from a consumer stand point - I am not a programmer though, so not sure how difficult that would be to add to the settings GUI.
:)

The latest non-expiring MA3 Beta10a with installer is at: http://www.fish-byte.com/MarineAquarium3.exe

Thank you for the update!
