That is a great shot.

Surferminn 09-28-2006 09:13 PM

Ditto that. That is an absolutely gorgeous pic, so rich and full of color, movement and life that coral is. :TU: (my current wallpaper, thanks. :)) p.s. check your PM . Glad to read you didn't have to travel too far from home to get it.

I stopped by the local aquarium store today to check some things out. I was pretty close to right on the pricing for a tank Jim. For one exactly like the one below its $2,455.00 for a 180 gallon setup. That includes everything; tank, stand, lights, etc., the only thing left would be the filter system you choose which for one like I would get is about $300. Other than that all you need is the saltwater, fish, and any corals you want for decoration. So pretty much ~ 3k - 3,500.00 which is what I guessed before. It certainly should give you more options for photography on certain items if you went this way.

I may end up with one like this yet before its over with. :)

ESHIREY 10-01-2006 09:01 AM

That is the same tank Cat and I were looking at when I got the fish. I am going back over in about a week or so when they get my blue jack back in. http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/img/Blue_Dempsey_2.jpg

We went to about a dozen of the top-rated aquarium stores in the Bay area over the last few days. Most were so pitiful that I can't believe they got any good reviews at all. But there was one standout, a store which made the rest of the trip worthwhile. That store was "All About Fish", 102 Second Avenue South, Pleasant Hill California 94523. The owner was very friendly, and I got a lot of good source material.

ESHIREY 10-02-2006 04:14 PM

That's great buddy.

Jav400 10-02-2006 06:49 PM

Great news Jim, care to leak any info about what you got?

No composed postcard pics, but the place has an enormous selection of corals, clams, etc. I got a lot of shots of individual objects I can use.

jleslie 10-03-2006 03:25 AM

That's really nice...

Simple Steve 10-04-2006 08:02 AM

Love the purple and green colors. I think with a tank full of corals like that, I might have one running without any fish at all.:D Of course I doubt that any coral will be able to match the beauty of the new fish.:)

PS. Grab a paper or something while you are there in the future and come back with some lottery numbers or something. :)

Haven't been here in awhile so was reading through the topics and noticed these posts on page 2 of this thread.

Surprised no one recognized that those are the The Numbers from Lost. Mr. Jim must be a fan.

Season premiere tonight :TU:

Glad to see things are moving forward on the 3D project.

:)

Thanks for the reminder. Will program the OTA HDTV card to start recording the season!

? regarding 3.0

I saw that in 3.0 there would be new fish. Does this mean that all the fish will be changed or that there will be more added to the present line up? I would hate not to have such great fish like the Clown trigger and so many others.

Thanks

Rob

Jim Sachs 10-05-2006 01:06 AM

The plan is for 3.0 to have the same fish as 2.6, but all the fish will be re-done.

feldon34 10-05-2006 08:02 AM

Higher res textures? Different fish model?

Jim Sachs 10-05-2006 09:50 AM

Yes.

cjmaddy 10-05-2006 10:11 AM

Succinct. ;)

Yellow Tang 10-06-2006 03:39 AM

Different motion?

Jav400 10-06-2006 05:04 AM

Personalities :)

Tiny Turtle 10-06-2006 02:17 PM

How about if you guys tried and show some restraint when posting. Could you keep ''em a bit shorter or at least divide them up in paragraphs? My eyes hurt from reading all that text.

Wizwad 10-06-2006 03:35 PM

LOL!
Verily! :)

Jav400 10-17-2006 08:03 PM

Jim,

Since the forum has ran around and been off on tangents for the past few days on other topics, I just thought I would ask how things are going and if you had any news to share on your progress?

Jim Sachs 10-18-2006 01:14 AM

Just finished a "green carpet" coral, which turned out pretty well. Working on the cave now.

Yellow Tang 10-18-2006 02:59 AM

A cave! A cave! A cave! Hurra!!!

ESHIREY 10-18-2006 08:11 AM

Oh Boy. I can't wait to see that.

Jav400 10-18-2006 08:40 AM

Got any partial screen grabs of the green carpet you wouldn't mind sharing? ;) :D

Yellow Tang 10-18-2006 08:45 AM

Keep it as a secret, Jim. I would like to see it in one piece of art! If it is finished somewhen... :D

nicksteel 10-18-2006 01:56 PM

Think of it more like a generations spanning experience.

Jim Sachs 10-18-2006 02:31 PM

Yeah - It would be nice to turn the whole thing over to my daughter, but she has no interest in programming :)

memilm 10-19-2006 12:00 AM

then are only some hopes she will marry a good programmer and fish lover ...

Alan, you're supposed to be dedicated to the fish! Back to work!

Jim Sachs 10-20-2006 01:49 PM

Ha, ha - She's in Spain for the Fall quarter, but she'll be back in Chicago for the Winter Quarter. The only way she'll ever get married is if she finds a combination of Leonardo Da Vinci, Lorenzo the Magnificent, and Johnny Depp.

spiralmonkey 10-20-2006 03:28 PM

A perfectionist, like her dad ;)

Tiny Turtle 10-22-2006 02:19 PM

Suck up...

;)

Jim Sachs 10-22-2006 09:27 PM

I just got out of the car after a 13-hour drive to Oregon, and found I had forgotten my Lightwave dongle. Looks like no progress on 3.0 for the next couple of weeks. Drat!

handimannbob 10-22-2006 11:12 PM

Jim Sachs 10-22-2006 11:37 PM

Does he travel with a Lightwave dongle? :)

The cave will be used by whatever cave-dweller the user purchases in a Creature Pack.
