Old versions?

I seem to remember someone hosting all the old releases of Sachs Aquarium, I am looking for the very early releases, thought I had them but cannot find. I have searched the forum for hours but cannot find any mention so I amwondering if it was posted on the original forum years ago?

I would just like to run the oldest one I can find to compare. (I will run through VMWare)

Jim Sachs 10-30-2008 08:13 AM

I don't think Cliff ever throws anything away.

MadBob 10-30-2008 08:26 AM

Cliff any chance of uploading your oldest version somewhere? I noticed Socrates has found 99D anyone with an older version that can be uploaded?

Jav400 10-30-2008 08:52 AM

I'm sure I have them all at home somewhere, but I would have to dig for them in an old drive

cjmaddy 10-30-2008 09:26 AM

The oldest I can find on my hard drive are....

v99L (Aquarium99L.exe 13/09/2001)(1.132 KB)
v1.1 (AquariumV11.exe 21/02/2002)(1.028 KB).
v1.1wide (AquariumV11-wide-0328.exe 27/06/2002)(1,051 KB)

But I can't get the 1.1wide to work correctly on a modern LCD, - the way it did on a Sony Trinitron CRT, ie wide-screen. - It's now all squished tall and thin, and full screen height! :(

feldon34 10-30-2008 11:00 AM

I've got a CD of old versions somewhere. Dozens of the "99" series.

Edit: No luck finding it on a quick pass of my CDs though.

MadBob 10-30-2008 11:04 AM

Oohh can we have some of them on an upload site please :)

cjmaddy 10-30-2008 11:17 AM

Looks like my 99L isn't needed... ;)

MadBob 10-30-2008 11:41 AM

Just found 99H.exe 19-March-2001 on a russian ftp :) ftp://ftp.iem.ac.ru/windows/ssaver/Aquarium99H.exe

I seem to remember the filename was different before this release?

feldon34 10-30-2008 11:43 AM

Again I can't find mine right now, so Cliff if you've got any, you're welcome to post.

MadBob 10-30-2008 12:02 PM

Jim

I still have my old serial number for this version, but for those who don't would you have any issue with providing one so people can see how it has changed over the years?

cjmaddy 10-30-2008 12:23 PM

This is my 99L. - I can't get it to accept the Keycode I have, but it may accept yours....

How do you get these to run with windows xp ? It sets the ntdvm ( sp? ) process going , which is the 16 bit compatability process , right ? But nothing else happens .

Going to be installing a Radeon 9550 card on my desktop in just a few hours . I know almost everyone favours GeForce , but all the nVidia cards in the store were in opened boxes .

MadBob 10-30-2008 01:11 PM

Didn't have to do anything they just worked with XP Pro on my laptop.

Cliff it works with my original serial number thanks. 99H stored the serial viewable in the registry and 99L encrypted it.

Jim Sachs 10-30-2008 02:28 PM

Gee, if I had known they would become collector's items, I would have kept them myself. :)

Well if you *cough* end up waiting 6 years for an update things become antique :)

Well, there is a 99D version here. It works with my WinXP, so try it out!

You will also love this version, as far as I know it was one of the last versions with really fast swimming fishies.
And it is the wide-screen version (you have to adjust your screen manually eventually).

MadBob 11-03-2008 05:15 PM

Anyone got an earlier version than .99D

Watch out for the widescreen version .99K if you try to focre wide it flickers on and off with the only way out being a reboot :)

Not very likely as 99D was the first publicly available version. I'm not sure of the release date, but 99E was mid-December 2000 and added the Addis Butterfly, the Wimplefish and the first French Angel.

roseangel 11-04-2008 05:50 AM

The earliest I have is Aquarium99K.exe (not the wide screen version), although I must have had an earlier one since I purchased the aquarium on 29/01/2001.

I registered mine on "Sun Apr 29 10:41:54 2001" :) I remember I had been using it for a while before buying it.

feldon34 11-04-2008 09:12 AM

.99D is the first version I had.

DaleArden 11-04-2008 01:46 PM

Thankyou Yellow Tang . Both of those run fine on my laptop .

Hello all,

I'm a new member of this forum, although I've been reading it for years.

Just wanted to tell you that I found the version 0.996 beta from July 2000 and several other early versions (like Aquarium99A.exe from August 30, 2000 with 452 KB) in my archive.

The interface to choose fish was a bit different these days :).

I'm not sure how to post attachments here, but if anybody needs one of these, I think we'll find a way.

Jav400 11-04-2008 04:35 PM

Glad you finally posted and joined in.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Tiny Turtle 11-04-2008 05:58 PM

That would be most interesting, Heikog. Looking forward to seeing those.

Yellow Tang 11-05-2008 01:46 AM
