I see the same thing here on my third screen (the same one that had trouble with the purple gorgonia). Here's a side-by-side of screenshots to illustrate...

Multi-monitor hell time again?

Confirmation

Jim,

I'm sorry to confirm the same thing. I bring a laptop to work and back. On Easter night I loaded up the new program on my laptop and reported the clams as perfect. At work I have a second monitor I hook up to. On that monitor the clam's movement is stifled. Only the purple clam moves a little - a very small amount. The other two are closed. I also tried setting the "Render the same image on all monitors" checkbox. I get perfect clams on my main screen and the same problem on screen two. If there is any more information that would help please let me know.

ant 04-13-2009 07:19 AM

Nice. :)

loub516 04-13-2009 09:27 AM

Interesting video

Jim Sachs 04-13-2009 10:30 AM

Today I'll be working on getting the clams moving on multiple monitors.

Mikey242 04-13-2009 12:25 PM

Amazing stuff Jim, nice work.

snorkler 04-13-2009 07:16 PM

We got CLAMS!!! Thanks Jim!
I wouldn't mind a little more movement from the blue one - but maybe that is how they really move? They are extremely real looking.

Jim Sachs 04-13-2009 07:30 PM

The blue one moves about the same as the others if a fish gets near it.

Clams on Multi-Monitors

Jim,

I've got two monitors running and the clams look perfect now! All three are moving perfectly on both monitors or stretched across both (clams on monitor two only).

And the vertical sync seems to be working very well for me too.

I know you hear it a lot but, thanks! This is so nice!

Jim Sachs 04-13-2009 10:09 PM

Glad to hear it. I'm still not sure what happens with vsync if the two monitors have different refresh rates.

Wow... those are perfect if you ask me. Great work Jim!:TU:

rctneil 04-14-2009 04:14 AM

Beta 10A looks fantastic and is great to see over both screens with the clams in full working order on the 2nd screen. Heres to new fish models and behaviours shortly! - ;)

streetwolf 04-14-2009 09:04 AM

Clams look great. Wonder how they taste?

While the blue clam gets alot of action from the fishes the other two get 'visited' by the fish alot less often therefore very little action from them. I got about 30 fish going.

It's hard to tell how close the fish come to the back two clams but they don't react like the blue clam.

Jim Sachs 04-14-2009 09:32 AM

If a fish were to decide to swim directly over all three clams, they would react identically. Most fish move straight across the tank up against the front glass, which takes them near enough to the front clam to trigger it. As more animated items are added to the tank, you will begin to appreciate the fact that there are actions which happen frequently, and others which happen rarely, (and some which almost never happen).

The goal is to keep people interested, no matter how long they've had the Aquarium, "Hey...I never saw THAT before!"

streetwolf 04-14-2009 12:06 PM

Good explanation. Can't wait for the treasure chest. ;-)

ESHIREY 04-14-2009 12:37 PM

The chest will be in the fresh water tank. As for the dual monitors, I have the same thing. Other then that, they look great Jim.

Thank You.

It might open a can of worms for you... But.. I wish more fish would swim front to back (and back to front) between the coral and the crystal. They currently do to some extent but are always quite high. The clams would get much more of a workout if fish swam closer to "ground" level through this "gap". And.. in general the fish should swim closer to the ground, especially in the clam area.. I know you have had problems with fish submerging.. but :D

Jim Sachs 04-14-2009 09:24 PM

Again, the clams don't have more of a workout because I don't want them to. There will be many things in the tank that will happen only rarely, but when they are all there something rare will be happening most of the time.

Ralph 04-14-2009 10:06 PM

What is the next animation you are going to start...

Jim Sachs 04-15-2009 12:29 AM

I'll probably redo the fish models next, but after that there are two animated objects that I've been planning to add: a feather-duster worm and a sea apple.

cjmaddy 04-15-2009 02:35 AM

You shouldn't have said that, Jim. - What's the betting that before the day is out, - some one will say... "I can't wait for...!"

Jav400 04-15-2009 04:21 AM

Oh wow, I can't wait for the feather duster. :)

Now the suspense is gone. ;)

loub516 04-15-2009 04:29 AM

I can't wait for the sea apple!:)

Wizwad 04-15-2009 05:24 AM

I can't wait for the updated fish behaviour / textures!

Just to complete the set of 'can't wait for's! :D

cjmaddy 04-15-2009 06:48 AM

.... But you're all going to have to! :p :roflmao:

Jav400 04-15-2009 07:45 AM

It's a wonder that Jim puts up with any of us. :roflmao:

MadBob 04-15-2009 12:25 PM

Money maybe? :D

Jim Sachs 04-15-2009 12:34 PM

Money? I got all the money you guys are willing to part with about a decade ago :)

patscarr 04-15-2009 01:11 PM

:)

Mikey242 04-15-2009 01:25 PM

Looking forward to the new models.

Not necessarily.

Like some others here, in spite of your earlier generous offer, I just bought an upgrade to V3. I know $9.95 won't go far, but I've already got more than my money's worth from this program.

Thanks for the great work, Jim.

Not entirely true... I suspect others may have done the same as me. I bought a new license at full price for MA3. I think it is inexpensive at 19.95 and well worth supporting your ongoing endeavors.:TU:

Jim Sachs 04-15-2009 04:21 PM

Greatly appreciated. Maybe I'll work on a surprise for you guys.

troyb 04-15-2009 05:31 PM

I bought 3 copys my self 1 for my mother of 84 years 1 for my sister inlaw and one for my self and have the money for you when the creature packs are ready

Exactly what (and why) I did a few weeks ago when I purchased a new laptop (my desktop was dying a very s l o w death).

I think MA3 is pretty awesome as it now stands but I must admit that I'm really looking forward to it's gradual improvements, changes & additions as time goes by.

:TU:

iMark 04-16-2009 07:12 AM

well, the clams are really quite splendid...thank you, Jim...it makes the anticipation level for everything else greater..

I thought the $9.95 upgrade price was a deal...considering the years and amount of enjoyment that we got out of MA and MA2...this is a whole new beast..I look forward to it's continued developement...

pvernam 04-17-2009 06:57 AM

Great work on the clams! I like them a lot.

Jim: Is there a plan to ever animate the anemone at the far right of the tank (and perhaps make the clownfish reside there)? I expect that would be a horrendous amount of work but it would be unbelievably cool. (I'm just curious -- not trying to add more tasks to your already over-flowing plate.)
