Hey Jim, if the installer gets updated will you be making an announcement? Hard to tell from the first post link which version is currently up

feldon34 06-04-2009 03:44 PM

This thread contains the links to download the latest Installer and Standalone versions of MA3:
Marine Aquarium 3 Beta NEWS & DOWNLOAD

You can SUBSCRIBE to that thread to receive an e-mail any time there is an updated version. There is currently no way to get an e-mail ONLY when the Installer version is updated.

It wouldn't do to subscribe to THIS thread, as it is a discussion thread and gets lots of hits during the month.

Jim Sachs 06-04-2009 03:50 PM

Yeah, I'll make an announcement.

feldon34 06-04-2009 03:52 PM

If there is a genuine desire, then I will split off and create a whole separate Installer News thread which you can post new releases to. It would be structured in a similar way to the Beta thread that you've been posting to.

I would scale back some of the rhetoric and if folks want more info, they can go over to the Beta thread and read more detail..

Sounds like a great idea, Morgan.

See the installer still only has beta a in it. :(

Jim Sachs 06-05-2009 11:30 AM

I'm hoping Prolific will be able to get Beta10d up as the official version today.

music question

Jim first I want to say I love your new aqarium and I love more each day. Question and I'm not sure this is the right thread. I wanted to add some of my music but it appears the tracks I got from itunes store are mp4 format. Will this format be supported in future updates?:p

Jim Sachs 06-05-2009 01:05 PM

I'm not sure yet. In the meantime, there are a lot of programs available to convert them to MP3, WMA, or AIFF formats.

Ralph 06-05-2009 07:59 PM

OOPS.. it seems that the new MarineAquarium3-2.exe when installed removes the play list of the beta version...Yet does not remove or change the logo setup / files

Jim Sachs 06-05-2009 08:24 PM

That's probably a function of the installer. It's always safest to rename playlists if you want to keep them when using the installer.

I technically agree that it's safest. But:

It would be called a BUG in the installer, if it changes any pre-existing user settings.

And, beating a dead horse - there's no current user documentation telling users where the playlists are.

Jim Sachs 06-05-2009 09:22 PM

Beta.

I guess I didn't realize that the installer code (itself) was considered to be Beta.

Presumably, a bug report in this thread (such as the one Ralph reported) gets it fixed.

feldon34 06-06-2009 08:45 AM

The whole purpose of the installer was to create a blank playlist in the correct folder on all possible systems from 2000 to XP to Vista to Windows 7. There was no easy way to communicate to the user that due to Microsoft finagling, the folder the MA3 looks for logos and playlists is quite different on different systems.

Everything else, the user can figure out themselves.

Going forward, the installer should check for the existence of the file and not overwrite it though.

Jim Sachs 06-06-2009 09:52 AM

This is the first time that Prolific has used this particualr installer software, and they are not even certain if it's the final one. Nova (our new hardcopy publisher) has their own, and we might end up going with a modified version of theirs. None of this is in my hands.

GWG 06-06-2009 11:02 AM

Installer Date ? ScreneScreen 3,606,351 Bytes installs MarineAquarium3.scr 6,587,176 Bytes T603.3.0.193

Installer May 11 fish-byte 3,562,114 Bytes installs MarineAquarium3.scr 6,696,960 Bytes T511.3.0.186

Download June 3 fish-byte gives Ma3Beta.scr 6,587,176 Bytes T603.3.0.37

All fine in Windows 7 RC1 x64

Does ScreneScreen install 10d? (Bytes of scr match)

I have no problem with that, now that I know.

The question is how (if) we should report problems with the installer. Here? SereneScreen "tech support"? Somewhere else?

Jim Sachs 06-06-2009 11:55 AM

GWG - The latest installer version at SereneScreen.com is 10d (which is the very latest version as of today, June 6). Simply run the Aquarium and press the "S" key to show the Statistics, which includes the version number. The number of bytes and the "T..." number will vary depending on whether that copy of the program was compiled on my system or Edgar's.

Dale - I guess this is as good a place as any to report installer problems.
