herky-jerky fish

Started up my laptop tonight, and the fish, screen pan are
herky-jerky and 'jagged' in movement. NOTHING is running
in the back ground ( other apps & progs or bugs, Im a
computer geek) Any ideas how to 'fix' this?

Running Ver3 Beta 10d, sorry forgot to mention this in the
first post...guess even a geek can make a rookie mistake..

Even though you're sure that there's nothing running in the background, it sounds likely that you might have missed something. I have systems that run invisible updates, which can steal an awful lot of clock cycles.

I can promise that there's nothing in the Aquarium code which tells it to start running herky-jerky on Sept 3.

Thanks Jim,

I'll keep digging, so far coming up empty. Have shut off everything in start up & have scanned using CCleaner, MalwareBytes, Hijackthis and and and.

But obviously something went south.
The Shark screen saver is also running in super slow-mo.

Guess I will have to do w/o my two fave' savers until
I get to the bottom of it.

We are approaching a full moon though and the tides will be high. Your screen saver code that deals with the tidal influence could be causing this.:D

Hmmm, that explains why my dogs are acting odd, and I have a sudden
craving to run with them tonight.

Assuming you are running Windows XP - you probably know this already, but:

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete simultaneously. This brings up the Windows Taks Manager.

Clicking on the Performance tab will show you CPU total load, but what you wanto to do is:

Click on the Processes tab. Make sure "Show process from all users" is checked.

Click on the column header that is for CPU percent (Often shown as "C..."). That sorts CPU users - with 00% at the top. Now click that column header again, and the sort will be with the biggest users at the top.

[If you don't have a CPU column, then click on View at the top, go to Select Columns, and add CPU Usage]

That should show you what process is using a lot of CPU.

I'm guessing Windows Update installed a crappy "new" video driver.

Sorry I havent been back to give you an update. Thank you for ur suggestions, ( I had already done them b4 I came here
looking for help) But THANK YOU none the less.

It was a crappy driver, Logitech XV Nano wi-fi mouse driver/app',
also known and Set Point. Took some digging but finally figured it out.
Uninstalled set point, ran mouse with generic XP driver, all was fine.
Re-installed most current version of Set Point, issue returned. Un-installed
Set Point once again, installed old version from Logitech CD, config'd
Set Point NOT to update, reboot....no issue.

I'd like to say I was "smart" in figuring this out, but it was purely by luck.
Process of elimination really. I had added a new mouse about a month ago,
saver issue started a few weeks after install...sometimes 2+2=4.
Arent computers FUN!?!?!?!

Thanks for getting back to us with the info. It will probably be of great help to someone in the future.
