Goldfish Aquarium Wishlist

The Prolific Goldfish Aquarium will come with 5-7 goldfish. If you've got ideas about which fish should be added, please post your pictures and/or comments here!

there are so many members of the goldfish family to choose from
but the ones I seen ,and liked are as follows
which I might enjoy seeing in a virtual aquarium are :
bubble eye
fantail
double fantail
just ur standard goldfish
blackmoor
lionhead
just to name a few

Argh, goldfish are ugly.
A baby Koi would be cool, so I can say I have a 1000$ fish in my computer :D

Some are, but that is the art of this for us. We are very carefully picking the most attractive Goldfish. They have a lot in common with Pugs (dogs) in my opinion. Bread to be appreciated by Chinese royalty. They seem (to me) that the Chinese would attempt to make these animals (through selective breeding) look like humans.

Whereas, the Japanese took Kois (and having a VERY DIFFERENT view of what looks human) went for beautiful markings on the back of the fish.

I have grown to appreciate Goldfish, but don’t like these lionhead ones, they look like they have their brains on the outside, or have cancer or something.

Goldfish are also about movement, keep in mind, they are the EXACT OPPISITE of evolution. They can’t find their own food, they can’t protect themselves, and they can't avoid a predator. They are picked SOLELY by their cute factor. They have a 100% symbiotic relationship with humans.

Unfortunately our biggest market will be China, where they will steal the product. There are some subtle things I’m working on to lessen this.

springs to mind, I'm not very fond of that one either, but to each his own.

Those fish make me lose my appetite. Maybe that's the goal? :D

I agree wholeheartedly with Michael and Morgan – And that was Schwartzenegger, right? ;)

While I agree that the "ODD" looking ones are an aquired taste, the goldfish collectors that would most likely buy the screensaver would want them in. If you think the others were ugly check this one out.

Jav400 03-08-2003 07:55 PM

The process of natural selection must have been on a holiday for this one. I have no idea why a fish would have progressed to this stage. That has to be the silliest looking thing I have ever seen.

Tiny Turtle 03-09-2003 01:35 AM

Oh my. Please tell me that was a unique fish – No one would want a fish like that, right? I'd wish for it to bet out out of it's misery...

Fantail Goldfish aren't all ugly, sure they're all plump, but not all ugly. I used to have some when I was younger. Here's a good example of a decent looking Fantail -

This one got an honorable mention...

Both would be great in our tank.

This is my wish. I think it is called Comet goldfish

feldon34 03-09-2003 04:11 PM

Now we're talking.

The Fantail and Comet Goldfish work for me. :)

Don't be afraid of fish with insanely long fins. The new platform handles them well (trust me :)).

Ok, I have just been on a goldfish hunt and here are some links to the ones that I like. They really are pretty.

Be afraid of fish with long fins. Be very afraid.

feldon34 03-10-2003 10:24 AM

Use the tools, Luke. :)

Jim Sachs 03-10-2003 11:02 AM

Collision detection/prediction has yet to be implemented. Will and I are hoping to have a brainstorming session about it in the next couple of weeks.

patscarr 03-11-2003 12:22 AM

Steve, the Double-Poster. I'm gonna start counting these. :)

Digital Lungfish 03-12-2003 12:11 AM

Neat trick huh? :) Did you happen to notice the Posts count on both of them? :D Try that one on for size David Copperfield!

Actually, it's my home made attempt at a clone.

Discovery One 03-15-2003 04:24 PM

So, when does this thing come out, anyway? Is there going to be a demo soon? I'm pretty psyched about it!

Reichart 03-15-2003 05:23 PM

Release date

A beta version will be up in less than several weeks.

We are working our tails off to make this first version really beautiful.

P.S. Why do I feel like I'm speaking to big Brother?

Actually, I'd expect nothing less from a database-driven forum. You've been hanging around on those low-rent UBB forums again, haven't you?

No, sadly this is the ONLY forum I cruise these days. There's just nothing else out there that really interests me enough for me to post my comments. Besides, my time is limited right now. Not only that, too many of them are riddled with flame wars, arguing, posturing, immaturity, etc, and I'd rather avoid all of that.

Derrek 03-16-2003 07:31 PM

Any ideas on the price for the GA?

(Feldon, am I still allowed to ask questions?)

Ziphiid 03-18-2003 11:03 AM

Might I suggest that once this is released and most of us will have 2 aquariums creating a 'tank randomizer' which will kick in a random aquarium each time the screen saver starts. It looks as though I will equally like to see the MA, FA, and GA. It would be super cool if we had a settings tool for each aquarium and then a randomizer that picks a random aquarium tank on top of that.

feldon34 03-18-2003 12:42 PM

Already on the drawing board.

Discovery One 03-18-2003 04:47 PM

Since it's a goldfish tank, will there be options for cheesy things added to the tank, like deep sea divers and treasure chests? You know, for the casual goldfish enthusiast....
