OK, I think I've found the problem. Luckily, I had an Intel Mobile chip in my laptop, or I might never have diagnosed it. Apparently, Intel drivers have trouble with surface normals if they are not explicitly specified.

I love this logo on the crystal more than having the clock on it. I am curious to see though how it would look under the first layer of the crystal. Maybe it could be an option for the different looks.
