Koran Angelfish juvenile?

Hi, Jim!

I might have asked this before, can't remember. :)

But according to my Red See Reef Guide, your Korean Angelfish juvenile looks more like a Emperor Angelfish juvenile.

Which is correct?
And what is this fish I thought was a Emperor Angelfish juvenile?

I think we had this discussion about 4 years ago. I forget what the determination ended up being at the time, but I am assuming that since things weren't changed it was positive.

Overall I would guess it's sort of a moot point now as when Jim starts the rework on the fish new higher resolution textures will be used instead of the current ones. I would guess everything should be ironed out to everyone's satisfaction then.

I think it's more of a Koran. I've seen pictures of Korans that look more like Jim's than the one you posted. The key here is the circular "globs" towards the posterior. Those are absent in Koran Angelfishes. Did i mention how beautiful Emperor Angelfish are under actinic lighting? The blue is so piercing and glowing it's mesmerizing. I'd love to have a juvenile Emperor Angelfish.

One thing I learned a decade ago when I was first putting fish into the Aquarium - There is very little agreement among "experts" regarding some saltwater tropicals. Several species are indistiguishable from each other as juveniles, and there's discussion about whether they are even different species at all. Just do a Google image search for "Koran Angelfish". I've never even seen an example of the straight-bar version that you posted.

Too bad the dive was just 75 minutes, or I would find out what it was... ;)
