DirectX 9.0a
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...dxwebsetup.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Still trying to find a list of the bug fixes. Maybe Microsoft pulled the fingers out of their ears stopped humming and started paying attention to the developers screaming about DirectX bugs. ROLF |
Great, 165 megs. Ought to be done downloading about the time DX 10 comes out. Guess I'll wait for the CD version.
Yea and when you check they probably only updated 15 dll files.
Shouldn't DirectX be a TOTAL of 15 DLL files?
165mb's? That's insane :) guess I'll give it a try....
I've installed it. Was only 7mb's using the webupdate. So far seems fine.
Can you install this from windows update? I don't see it there, perhaps from microsoft's website?
Their website says it's 165317 KB, (165 MB). Is this false?
I think the update is only 7mb, the whole thing might be 165mb.
I downloaded the following wich is i think about 290KB: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...dxwebsetup.exe Once that ran it downloaded about 7mb of stuff from microsoft to update directx9.0 |
Funny.
I downloaded the exe file in less than one second. Albeit, my cable connection is lighting fast and less than 50' from the main junction box - still seems like a minor dl. |
meanwhile Jim is in the woods. Literally.
It did turn out to be 7.1 megs -- less than an hour. Now the Aquarium runs a little jerky compared to DX8.
So how does Directx 9 compare with 9a? Any suggestions?
Well that's pitiful, but probably to be expected from M$. Hmmm, now I can get those files in seconds and they aren't worth getting. There has to be a word for that. :(

Just a bit of interesting news for you all ;) |
Hmmmmmmm, now it's gone from their site. Those links you guys posted above no longer work for 9.0a.
yeah MS have pulled DX9a for some reason (no statement as to why)
Glad I wasn't in a hurry on that one. Most of the reviews I have read say it wasn't working very well for anyone.
The real reason Microsoft is taking their time with the next Direct X is because they can't decide what to name it... They didn't get it out soon enough to call it "Direct XP" and "Direct X 10" just isn't cool enough... I've heard they're tossing around "Direct XX," "Double X," "Direct 2 X," and "Death to OpenGL X." Personally I like "Direct X²" the best.
How about DirectX - Viewable Source Edition?
Here's a novel idea... Since Microsoft's only profits on DirectX are *from its developers*, why not let the developers who eat, sleep, and breathe DirectX every day and depend on it for their very livelihood take a look at the source code? I'm thinking MS would get about 2,000 bug reports/source code change requests in the first 2 weeks. |
