I don't have an iPhone. but I think it's alot more harder for you to target my PSP. :(

Ah, I see the problem. You expect the program to actually RUN on whatever hardware you have :). I was hoping there were more MadBobs out there with no such expectations.
|
Who do I need to take for lunch at Prolific to convince that a Symbian version would be a good idea? :)
|
Judging from the low level of interest in the PPC version (http://www.serenescreen.com/product/ma-ppc/), it's unlikely that any more tiny-screen versions will be forthcoming.
|
How many people have a PPC?
iPhone does seem to be the most logical one. |
Tiny Screen? Harrumph. :p
Mine has a 3.5" screen with a resolution of 640x360. Bigger than the current iPhones, I think, though possibly not compared to that new iPhone 4G discovery. One can hope. |
My PSP has 4.3" 480x272. :)
PSP Go has 3.8" |
Works great on my iPod Touch.
Any plans for MA3 for the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad? Keep up the good work. |

Although since MA2.6 and MA3 are quite different, even in the Mac version, this could take more time than they'd ever make back on sales. They'd be splitting the market into MA2.6 for iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch and MA3 for people owning an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4G, or iPad. |
Yes, we've discussed all of that. Assuming the hardware could handle it, re-writing MA3 as an i-version would be a major expense for Jim O-Connor's team. The past few days have seen a 3X surge in sales for the iPad version of MA 2.6, but this only means that it is buying my dinner, and not just lunch. To make a living with iPhone apps, you either need a LOT of different apps selling fairly well, or one killer app that you can charge a decent price for.

How did you guys arrive at the 99 cent price?
|
All the other aquarium programs are 99 cents. Studies show that the vast majority of iPhone apps are downloaded, looked at once and then never again. People will pay 99 cents out of curiosity, but no more than that.
|
When I browse the iPhone store, the first thing I look at is free apps. Then after downloading them and trying them out, I make the tough decision of spending $3-5 for the 'Pro' or paid versions.
|
The only paid app that I even look at more than once is the Universe Splitter, by my friend Eric Daniels (Goldfish).
|
MA 2.6 is now #7 in the iPad paid entertainment apps list.
|
Been a long time fan/user of Marine Aquarium since day 1 (WAY back when). And I'm a big iphone/ipad user. Had no idea this even existed until I saw it listed in the top 100 ipad apps today when browsing the store. So I instantly showed my support and picked it up. Looks good on iphone - can't wait to get home and try it on the ipad. Thanks for making it a dual app.
|
I haven't seen it on the iPad, but reports indicate it's quite stunning. We increased the price to $1.99, based on the fact that we are still behind "Colorful Aquarium" in the ratings. (Amazingly, their price is triple ours, they have dismal reviews, and their program apparently crashes whenever you touch the screen. What's wrong with people?!!)
|
Not sure raising the price will help your sales but will be interesting to see if it increases profit enough to offset (potential) sales loss. I think 99 cents is a magic price point ESP on iPhone.
It does look fantastic on iPad btw. Zooming in and out is a nice little bonus. |
Fishworld has just come out for the iPad etc. It's a very 2 dimensional thing derived from a Facebook app. It is free, but you have to buy coins and fishbucks to play it. By comparison, $1.99 for MA2.6 is the bargain of the year.

99 cents was a good price on the iPhone, where the tiny screen gives it limited use. But people seemed shocked that it was that cheap on the iPad, and that's where most of our sales are coming from. Often, an extremly low price lessens the value of something in buyers' eyes. I'm wondering how many people are buying Colorful Aquarium just because the price is 3x ours.
