What brings you back to the forum?

I almost posted this poll about 4 months ago but I'd like to post it now.

When I started this forum, I thought it would be mostly technically-minded people eking out the best they can from the Aquarium, including creating their own fish, maybe other 2D and 3D artists posting stuff, and also off-topic discussion.

Instead, we have a diverse community of fans of the Aquarium who have a lot of different topics they like to discuss, many of whom have known Jim's work for much longer than I have and who won't touch any kind of 3rd party add-on to the Aquarium. The respect for Jim's work is amazing and informative.

So what brings you back to the forum?

What would you like to see in the future to spark more discussions?

Brings me back? – I never leave this place...

fishbowl 06-11-2003 02:37 AM

Morgan,

Where's the option for "All of the Above" ? :D

Panthera 06-11-2003 02:46 AM

UHm, we can pick more than one.. correct?

fishbowl 06-11-2003 04:04 AM

Panthera,
Of course, you can! :) You may pick as many as apply to your reason(s) for visiting this forum. It was just my way of (sarcastically) letting Morgan know that all of the above are reasons for my visiting here (forum) as well as some others that are unfortunately not mentioned. :( I think what keeps bringing me back (on a daily basis) to this forum is the people who belong to it & the quality that the Administrator/Moderator put into it (Thanks, Morgan & Michael :) ) I, also would like to thank Jim Sachs, Reichart & all the people at Prolific for their participation in this forum. :)

patscarr 06-11-2003 07:13 AM

I voted for all the above, and there are many more reasons too. Mostly, it's about the people here, all of whom seem very nice. :)

So please mention them. :)

Is there a desire to have more formal discussions of various topics such as a photography club where people post their pictures and people comment about them?

Liath 06-11-2003 07:55 AM

I really enjoy having my morning coffee with you guys. I belong to a couple of other forums, but this one is by far the best. This is partially due to the fact that the people here are all helpful, friendly and open. People actually show their faces here. The forum is also very well managed, and the website is well organized and easy to use. The Coffee House has made waiting for program updates much easier, and I've learned some technical stuff too. Keep up the good work guys!

ESHIREY 06-11-2003 08:03 AM

I'm here everyday . First thing I do every morning. I'm here I'd say 7-8 times a day , if not more . I love everyone of you here . You people are the best .

Jav400 06-11-2003 10:02 AM

Thanks for all the glowing comments. :) I know that Morgan appreciates them, and I do also. We both try hard to make everything here helpful and generally informative and fun for everyone. It's nice every once in awhile to know where we stand and how we are doing. If you have any suggestions you are always welcome to post them or send me a email.

drfish 06-11-2003 03:52 PM

I show up when I have time, which hasn't been very often at all lately I'm sorry to say... I miss you guys...

cjmaddy 06-12-2003 10:58 AM

Like some others, it feels like I almost live here at times. It all started by chance when I first found a reference to a screen saver that 'Had to be seen to be believed' ...... as they say, the rest is history!

I think it would be nice to have subjects grouped together more, - say:-

General Chatty Stuff
Photography
Movie and DVD/Video
Computer Software
Computer Hardware
Games
Website Building
Cool Web Links

These could be sub-sections of the Coffee House.

I won't ask for more specialised things like Dwarf Conifers, Horses, Hi-Fi, Classic Stereo Recordings, etc. (...or you might think I'm a nutter!) :)

I've just realised it's No 600 for me! - so it goes without saying how much I've gained from coming here!

Keep up the good work! :TU:

ps.
It would be nice also if we could get the recording of Goldfish bugs sorted! - (Hint to Prolific! ;))

!?!? - I don't know what will bring Reichart & Prolific back to the forums, - but I suppose flattery may work! ;);)

Although Jim did not ask for my militant organization/handling of bugs for MA1 and MAT directly, I was glad to do it. I get motivated in many ways. :)

Prolific just hasn't found any way to motivate me yet.

IXNAY 06-12-2003 12:17 PM

I could nearly mark everything :D but maybe I always come back because I have to much time :) oh no not really. It's the nice people here!!!

Yellow Tang 06-12-2003 02:17 PM

I wonder why Cliff has forgotten a special section about Calc normals/ N-key?

Thanks for responding! - nice to know our comments are being read! - much appreciated! :TU:

Does this mean the fixes to SSA wide 0808 (M806.1.1.6) promised last October may see the light of day soon?

On the 3rd October 2002 Reichart emailed:-
We are very close to a full update with all these fixes made.

Deborah 06-13-2003 06:46 PM

Hi all,

How about a thread where we can post "Free Prgrams/ sofware"
that are just fun to use or very helpful.

Here's a few to start...

I don't know if anyone is familiar with "Steve Gibson" but his site is a must visit, run , don't walk.
Here's one of his free programs called the "Leak Test"
Internet Connection Security for Windows Users
HERE

Also, CoolMonitor.CoolMon is a program for monitoring vital system stats and almost anything else you wish to display on the desktop
Here

And of course the "Google ToolBar" I use it many times a day.
Here

Also, "Spy Bot" It found stuff that "AD-aware missed and it's free! I still use Ad-aware along with Spybot. Here Have Fun, Deborah

feldon34 06-13-2003 09:05 PM

Spybot Search & Destroy is on my list of Software I can't live without.

handimannbob 06-13-2003 10:36 PM

me too......

handimannbob 06-13-2003 10:45 PM

yeh that spybot is great.......scandefrag is another must.......another great one is adshield .......... the best of the freebies so far is avg anti-virus by grisoft.....in my humble opion....

handimannbob 06-13-2003 10:47 PM

how could i forget kerio's firewall........free too.....

cjmaddy 06-14-2003 04:15 AM

Software you could not live without ?

Deborah, Bob,

As Morgan has just pointed out, we have a thread for just this sort of information! :)

Check it out, there are some interesting posts there! - Click on this link:-

https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...=&threadid=951

My suggestion to have subjects grouped together more was to minimise this spread of information over too many different threads.

Nice one YT !

I knew you Germans had a sense of humour hidden away somewhere! ;)

grape_jellyfish 06-14-2003 12:26 PM

I come here mainly to see what is going on with the other members, we have a wide range of interest and cultures. And maybe I have a little crush on someone here, just maybe. :)

Ralph 06-15-2003 12:42 PM

I come here because it is my home page while there is a lot of activity. I appreciate the technical advise, almost on demand, from a lot of experienced people. I am always hopeful of an announcement of new additions, features, fish or what ever. There is a lot of diversity in this group both geographically and on an individual level that makes for a very pleasant mix.
The group is well disciplined / behaved, either Morgan does a lot of censoring, or more likely, this group has a common bond and a level of maturity to match.
Thanks to all those that make this forum possible, it is work, takes time and dedication to be the success it is.
:D
Ralph

kona001 06-16-2003 10:32 AM

Yes, I have to agree, you all are very nice people =)

feldon34 06-16-2003 02:16 PM

grape_jellyfish 06-16-2003 03:35 PM

Anytime, sounds like a good idea.

patscarr 06-17-2003 05:52 AM

Maybe a special sports section too.

Yellow Tang 06-18-2003 05:21 AM

Sports? Ahh, you are joking!

great screen savers. goldfish and marine

not bad message chating on computers, etc...

PaulsPics 02-24-2004 04:37 AM

Looking you guys up again, any news ?

Decided to have a passing look and say a G'day from Aussie land.
Hi Morgan and Cliff, Patrick, Michael.
Serene screen certainly is everywhere these days and comman place in the computer shops. But they do not seem to have upgraded to include the Lionfish and I have as yet to see Marine Time on display. I am still running both SS and Time as seperate stand alone, looked in to see if Jim or Prolific had come to a decision to place all 26 fish into the SSMarine time as yet, although I think I would still miss that lovely larger piece of pink/brown coral that had to be discarded from the original scenery.
I had a look at the Goldfish samples but think that the Marine tank is unsurpassable. I still think its great to sit back at the end of the night and change my spectacles (ex readers) relax and listen to the sound of water and watch before retiring for the night . Thanks Jim and regards to all

Paul

Jav400 02-24-2004 05:01 AM

Glad to see you again. Welcome back. :)

patscarr 02-24-2004 07:54 AM

Hi Paul. Will you be hanging around here more often?

feldon34 02-24-2004 10:25 AM

Won't be long until Marine Aquarium Time includes all 26 fish and the ability to put your own logo.

feldon34 02-24-2004 09:26 PM

The version I have is pretty stable. I can't imagine a reason for it to take "months".
