Odd Flash 5 / MX Application error with screensaver

I noticed something accidentally today that i thought I'd just bring to Jim's attention...

If I have Flash 5 or MX running on my system and the screensaver comes on, when the screensaver is deactivated (mouse jiggle or ESC), I get an application error in Flash, but it's a different error message depending on which version of Flash I have running.

In Flash 5, the message reads:

Quote:

The instruction at "0x62880052" referenced memory at "0x08880000". The memory could not be "read".

In FlashMX, the message reads:

Quote:

The instruction at "0x6288008e" referenced memory at "0x0bcc0000". The memory could not be "read".

This isn't a big deal, I'm just glad I didn't have work going that I hadn't saved when I found the problem. Of course, that's not to say it's the screensaver either, could be Flash. Either way, maybe this'll keep someone from losing some work.

I'm on a PIII 900Mhz using Windows 2000. I have Win98SE at home and will gladly try there as well and post later. I'm pretty sure the 2000 system is running DirectX8.1. I know I am at home.

Try running another D3D program, and see if Flash does the same thing when hardware control is returned to it.

I've learned to close Eudora Pro 5.1 before running the Aquarium. :(

I'm using Flash MX under WinXP Pro
I didn't exprienced the same problem.
Guss this only happens on Win2k system

playing around

I tried this with another, very cruddy, D3D screensaver and I couldn't reproduce the problem.

I didn't get the chance to try this at home yet as I was out of town all weekend, however, I'll do this tonight and post results.

I'm using Flash 5 on my XP Pro system and haven't been able to replicate the problem yet.

This is starting to sound like it's Win2000. I'll know more when I try it on 98SE at home.

FYI: 98SE seemed to check out ok. Couldn't repeat the problem.

Or author your Flash in Livemotion 2. :)

Never used Livemotion... I'll look into it. Thanks!

I have had a similar problem of the screensaver crashing my computer when watching movies in the DivX Player 2.0 Alpha.

I just turn it off now, but when i forget its incredibly frustrating to lose a point in a movie.

Fixable?

feldon34 05-25-2002 10:33 AM

Hmm. Haven't tested this, but then I don't have it set to screen saver, and I've never tried it while I was watching a movie.

Pretty neat to watch Spider-Man or Monsters, Inc. when I'm in the mood. I am definitely going to buy the deluxe DVDs of both.

I would bet you have a VIA chipset would I be correct?

feldon34 06-18-2002 12:45 AM

I just tested DivX Player 2.0 (Divx 5.02 release) and ran the Aquarium while playing a movie.

It's VERY not compatible! No crash, per se, just an ungraceful End Task.

VIA 4-in-1 4.37v(a). Asus A7V133

The issue may be the "apg to cpu controller" driver that does not install correctly with the 4 n 1 in some cases it changes itself when you change display drivers. Take a look and see if this is causing the problem you described.
