As Cliff says, that's only something you can decide. I guess the question is, how long would it take for you to release 1 creature pack, with maybe 4 specialty fish. Since the aquarium is doing slightly better for now with the ads going on, it might be the time to give it a try and see if it matters or not.

Would it take 6 months to get four decent fish done? And just for the record, how far can you get by yourself in that time on your house?

Jim Sachs 07-28-2012 03:52 PM

In six months I can finish the electrical (it's 3/4 done now), put in all the plumbing, do the insulation, and maybe half the drywall. Also, quite a bit of stonework.

Jav400 07-28-2012 08:47 PM

Then I guess the thing you have to decide is do you think that if you spend part of that time creating a creature pack to go along with the increased sales for the aquarium lately do you think the offset would be enough for you to get some help with those things afterwards?

The other thing is, no matter how you choose to proceed, you will probably be needing to do something to generate some income somehow for the rest of your days. So the second part to that question is do you go with something that you already have some base of comparison with that you know well like the aquarium and extras, or painting, or sculpting, or design, or something; or start out trying something totally different and hope for the best?

Hi Jim,

go for the house, I would say!

And after that, you can think about the movie... or the creatures.

feldon34 08-13-2012 03:05 PM

I'd rather see Jim putting his artistic talent towards creating art, animation, sculpture, or really anything other than staring at a Visual Studio screen tearing his hair out.

Jim Sachs 08-13-2012 07:13 PM

Too late, the hair is mostly out.

Pretty much.

Leave that to younger people. ;) Anything they put out that you don't like, just veto it.

Marine Aquarium update notifications

A nice feature would be for the Marine Aquarium screen saver to have an system option to permit an automatic ping of a Prolific server every one year from date of installation. This would check if there is update notification for download from the website (that could be shown in the Aquarium tank for a month or so). If it can't access the server through some fault or no connection to the internet (after some time post-installation anniversary), there won't be any repeated server messages until the following year.

The clock displayed in the Aquarium is the same as your computer's clock, which should update automatically with Daylight Savings Time unless you don't have this setup.

And..that new development consists only of tweaks to keep up with new operating systems. Time moves on but.. how many computer programs that are 18 years old.. still work and for the most part.. as good as the day they were released. And.. still has the author pop in to help. :TU:

Jim Sachs 11-14-2018 01:55 AM

Thanks for the suggestions, Tate. I'll take them into consideration!
