The cottages at the Steven Foster (Okefenokee) State Park were surprisingly well furnished for being so far from civilization. On Saturday, I added scrambled eggs to the breakfast plans as everyone got ready to go out on the swamp. We set out in 2 motor boats in different groups (Lars and Roger were already out on the river and Marion and Steve were canoeing).

The mosquitoes and other bugs don't really bother you when you're out on the water (much to my surprise!) but sunblock was the order of the day.

We were about 7 miles away from the Boat docks when the clutch on our boat's motor decided to become permanently disengaged. We didn't have any tools and no provisions for towing were given except the mooring chain up front. With a little improvisation (and a branch borrowed from the swamp) Vic towed us the rest of the way (We still explored Billy's Island before returning to base). I imagine it was a bit like steering with an elephant on your back. We took turns using the paddle to avoid trees and help Vic steer from our end. I think I lost 5lbs but it was fun all the same!

We returned to shore where some of us napped and then enjoyed hamburgers for lunch. In the afternoon, the musicians started to get organized for an in-cottage concert while Roger began preparations on Alligator Chowder (no joke!) and Vic and others prepared the peripheral dinner items.

When you listen to a concert like this, what's hardest to believe is that 5 guys are sitting down together, and except for John and Peter together, and Marcel and Dave on Friday night and Oke 2000, they've never played together before. So it's all improvisation and all happening real-time. Occasionally an artist would stop for a bit of Roger's Alligator Chowder or Pork Chops while the others carried on. It was pure fun.

After the music, anyone who had contributed some rare or unusual TD (or other artist) item (even John Tesh found his way into the bag) joined in a gift exchange of sorts. All told, there were over 70 items in the bag. The first part was similar to gift exchanges I've had at Christmas parties. Everyone gets a random number and then, in order, each person has the choice of getting an item from the bag, or 'stealing' one of the items someone else has. Then once someone has had an item stolen, they go fishing either in the bag or from someone else. Each item goes 'dead' after 2 moves. This was great fun as some rare Airsculpture and TD made its way around the room.
The second game was Name That Tune. Here, I truly embarassed myself, not knowing many things I have played a hundred times each. Roger stumped us a with bits from i-Box. Next was Name That Film with similar results. Of course Steve and Dave always cleaned up in the first or second guess but nobody went home empty-handed. The last game was a repeat of "Steal-a-gift". I made off with a rare CD of the Blue Room 1992 Promo with Peter Baumann and Paul Haslinger, Sorcerer vinyl (hey, it's got a good picture of the band), the true Albuquerque 1986 show, and the great 2 disc Dream Sequence TD sampler.
