Keeping Saltwater Fish

Real saltwater fish, specifically the species in SereneScreen Aquarium are difficult to keep for several reasons. They need a wide variety of variously expensive foods and chemicals, an exhaustively clean tank requiring a lot of filtering equipment, routine chemical checks, watching for disease and health of the coral (when the fish are getting sick you can't tell by sight usually), and changing out some of the water every 3-4 weeks. All saltwater fish generally like a temperature of 77-79 °F and water pH of 8.1-8.3.

Most of the saltwater fish in SereneScreen Aquarium including the Tangs, Angels, and Butterflies all prefer to live on a diet of coral in the wild. If you were to own a real tank of a few of these fish, you'd have to feed them brineshrimp, frozen coral and vegetable matter, and other variously expensive foods. At some point, Jim wants to add the ability to feed the fish and also to add a behavior of the fish nibbling on the coral.

SereneScreen Aquarium Fish Guide

I have collected general information about each of the fish in SereneScreen Aquarium and organized it into a guide. I found list prices for most of the real-life counterparts of each of these fish at Flying Fish Express, who sell every fish on this site. (Addis Butterfly price from Aquacon.com). The Latin Fish Names website helped of course. Some fish have multiple common names. I put the name Jim uses at the top and other common names within the description. Please contact me if you find any inaccuracies or have extra information.

I found most of my fish behavior and compatibility information from Aqualink.com and Animal-world.com. Some of the fish in SereneScreen Aquarium would, in reality, be completely incompatible with some of the other fish in the tank. Jim wanted to create a tank as real as possible, but it's nice to be able to mix and match any type of fish we want without them attacking each other!
